Here we have the music video for the song "Voices in My Head" by recording artist Ashley Tisdale. I remember her still vividly from Zack and Cody, which is probably still her career-defining project. At least none of her music fits the description. She has released many songs and music videos over the years and this one here is among the more recent as it came out back in 2018 and since its release 1.5 years ago has racked up slightly over 2 million views in Youtube. Not too much, not too little. The director here is Brian Petchers. Cannot say anything else about that/him because I have never come across the name and he is also not credited here on imdb, but you see his name at the end of the music video. The latter runs for exactly 200 seconds by the way, which is not a long music video by any definition I would say. Sure there's also shorter, but 3 minutes and 20 seconds is not a lot. And I am actually glad that they kept it relatively short because the outcome here is nothing really to be proud of. The video aspect is definitely a bit on the style over substance side and it feels as if this music video wants to be taken much more seriously than it has any right to. It's not a failure. The dress Tisdale wears on this tree is really nice and here and there we get an artistically okay glimpse, but it's gone as qucikly as it appears. As for the song: Not a success either. The chorus is mildly catchy, but only compared to the rest of it all. The lyrics also feel a bit on the pretentious side as a consequence of Tisdale's very limited voice. The one that comes out of her mouth, not one of those apparently inside her head. She does not have a lot of vocal range that much is safe. Autotune cannot save this one either, even if there is a lot in here, especially at the beginning. The only really impressive thing that caught my eye here is how Tisdale looks really still 10 years younger than she actually is, which of course is not a valid basis for a career in the music industry. This one gets a thumbs-down from me and the fact that apparently it is among the artists's more, if not most, known efforts definitely does not say anything positive about her body of work. Skip both the watch and listen here. Not recommended.
