Hang on hang on!!!! Hartnell was a crossdresser with a very dark tan?????
So 16 episodes in & finally an episode that begins with a familiar "who" vibe, looks interesting, feels familiar, I'm starting to feel good about this, it's got that familiar odd off kilter british sci-fi feel, the sort of thing that only the brits can do, then oh dear enter the "Dr"....... but wait....... no verbal diarrhoea..... no wittering or gurning..... Not whipping out the sonic screwdriver every 30 seconds.... have they finnaly gotten the message........ no, unfortunaly the wittering, gurning idiots can't help herself as she falls back into the wittering & gurning & innsessant screwdriver waving, but it was nice not to be in the entire episode & the "fam" didn't do too much of the "scooby chasing".
Overall this was an improvement on previous episodes from this & the previous season.
The story? Let's hope this is a "crossover of dimensions" rumours flying about that this is Chibnall's way of "re-booting" the entire Dr Who history, completely usurping everything right back to hartnell's day is utter madness.
Dr Who is British, born & bred, it's British sci-fi at its best, subtle & intelligent, building on thrills/mystery/horror & excitement to it's inevitable or unexpected conclusion, there's a reason why some of the best sci-fi directors & story tellers in Hollywood are British, the yanks can't compare, yes they can do big flashy expensive productions but every thing they do is so so & same same, they lack the ability to what the bits can do.
The BBC with Chibnall's help look to be "overhauling" this British show, recreating it as "American tripe" to fit in with the regular throwaway "TV garbage" that dominates the American networks.
The Americans don't understand British culture or any other culture for that matter, this is why when they "remake" movies & TV shows from other countries it all gets the "USA" makeover, devoid of what that movie or TV show had within it that made it so good, this includes books, comics & theatre plays, literally everything gets the USA makeover & so becomes throwaway garbage, they even do it to their own home grown productions, the list of US TV shows that have been dumped is endless, some even before the initial season has aired. But of course if you're an avid Dr Who fan you'll have seen the evidence long before now, it's been all too obvious right from Christopher Eccleston's stint as the Dr that the "beeb" have been trying to do this, it was there during Tennent's tenure, Smiths & Capaldi's, it just took this long to find the right "captain" to steer this "titanic catastrophe" in the right direction & so enter Chris Chibnall, purveyor of tripe, of bland drama & boring thrillers, copying & pasting previous stories & plots into his own unremarkable, unimaginative nonsense, saddly he will be successful in transitioning this very British show into the gimmicky rubbish the Americans drool over, the BBC will make sure of that because American money is the ultimate prize & lots of it, who cares about longtime fans? Two seasons then regenerate, basically re-booting for the next younger generation, if your target audience is say 8-10 then every 2 years you have a new audience for your product, Dr Who has "baggage" 50 years of it so cut it away & rewrite it, the Americans are advocates of re-writting history.
Let's hope I'm wrong, the rumours are wrong, let's hope this episodes plot is Chibnall's cheeky way of throwing us a curveball & it becomes a very clever, imaginative & exciting story for the finale of the season, not going to hold my breath on that though.
Metinks the "end is nigh" tis the doom for Dr Who.
