Awesome Game That Is More Than A Remaster
jeremycrimsonfox4 September 2019
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a remaster of the 1999 video game Crash Team Racing. The story this game offers is an evil alien named Nitrous Oxide, who claims to be the fastest racer in all the galaxy, has come to Earth to challenge its best drivers, with the fate of the planet as the prize of whoever is in first place. As a result, Crash and his friends and enemies accept the enemy's challenge.

So, this game is a remaster in the same vein of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which was released two years before, as it was made from the ground up. However, it is more than a mere remaster. One of the major additions is the fact that it has online play, and it also has a pit stop menu, which using Wumpa Coins earned via gameplay (or microtransactions, but that is only used by lazy players who don't mind throwing Activision money to get enough coins to unlock stuff) to unlock new characters, karts, and even kart parts and character skins that would not be unlocked via normal gameplay. While some people will not be happy that the game has microtransactions, thankfully, it is completely optional, and the characters and karts unlocked are purely cosmetic and do not give any unfair advantages.

The character selection has a lot of good characters. Not only do the characters from the original game return (with N. Oxide becoming an unlockable character, unlike the original CTR, where he was non-playable), it also includes characters from future games like Crunch Bandicoot and N. Trance, who were playable in Crash Nitro Kart. Also, the game has events called Grand Prix, where special unlockables are added to the pit stop, along with certain unlockables obtained by collecting "nitro", which is earned via normal gameplay as well as completing goals from four different lists.

The track selection is also good. Not only are all the CTR tracks present, but the tracks from Crash Nitro Kart also appear. And the aforementioned Grand Prix adds a new track to the list under the title of "Bonus Track". Also, the karts can be customized using the different parts that are unlocked from the pit stop, Grand Prix events, and normal gameplay (which include Body, Skin, Wheels, Paint Job, and even stickers).

The game controls well, and gives a good challenge, but has a difficulty selection for those who want to reduce the challenge, or increase it to test their racing skills. Also, there are other modes like Battle Mode, Time Trial, CTR Challenge, and Relic Race that have their own rules of winning. This is one remaster worth playing.

Another great remake!!
juanga-640524 January 2020
The game is definitely not everyone expected, this remake takes it two steps further and added characters from the other two crash racing titles: nitro kart and tag team racing! With over 40+ characters up to now with more being added on each Grand Prix the Game is totally worth picking up either on the standard edition or the nitros oxide edition! Also all the new DLC characters are FREE! All you the requirements for them to be unlocked is to purchase them on the pit stop for $1500 wumpa coins each which are easy to earn playing online with yours friends!

Frustrating
rwncopeland2 January 2021
I think I've got a love hate relationship with this game, and I'm not sure if me comparing it to Mario Kart is a good idea. As a remake it's incredible, when comparing between the original and the remake it's crazy to see how good it looks now. Minus the fact that it looks completely blurry on a Nintendo Switch but overall you can understand that it's a great remake.

I first decided to jump into adventure mode, this seemed like a great starting point where I could learn the ropes. There were three difficulties, easy, medium and hard. As I have played other kart racers in the past, I decided to jump into medium difficulty, this was a huge mistake. Beating adventure mode in medium was one of the most frustrating experiences, taking me hours to beat each race thanks to the steroid induced A.I. The A.I were also extremely predictable following the same paths each time, you could place traps in the same spot and they would just keep driving into them. The tracks were often really annoying and slow which would make the A.I even more painful to put up with. It's my fault really, I should have restarted on easy, but I was halfway through and couldn't be bothered to restart to change the difficulty. The boss fights were just cruel and annoying as well. Each boss was pretty much the same but they would all have a different trap shooting out their back. What made them insane was the fact that they were programmed to go insanely fast, faster than the player can actually go, if you overtook them they would instantly come flying past you. The puzzle levels I had no interest in playing due to them being extremely tedious and time consuming, I just couldn't be bothered to go back and get all the collectibles.

So would I recommend playing this? Kind of. If you want a more frustratingly hard kart racer, yes. Otherwise, just play more Mario Kart where the fun is at, at least there are people playing online there.
