This article contains The Expanse spoilers.
In the latest episode of The Expanse, Bobbie Draper reminds the Rocinante crew that they’re harboring a convicted felon, Clarissa Mao, and it’s easy for the audience to forget that she was in a maximum security prison on Earth for blowing up a ship full of innocent people in season 3. The forgiveness she earned from Amos in the intervening seasons has now been extended by Holden in this week’s most touching scene, and saving Bobbie’s life was a big part of her redemption arc.
Co-creator of The Expanse Ty Franck enjoys exploring the new dynamics that Clarissa, played wonderfully by Nadine Nicole, brings to the show. “More than anything it’s nice to see Amos have a friend… and Amos really likes [Clarissa]; they’re obviously growing much closer as friends, and that’s all nice,” he says. “But the other...

‘Tenet’: Ludwig Göransson Put Chris Nolan’s Breath in His Score — and Rethought Composing Altogether
When composer Ludwig Göransson first met with Christopher Nolan after reading the “Tenet” script to discuss how they were going to implement the time inversion theme for the score, the director already had a musical idea in mind: making the electric guitar sound different. That turned out to be a great catalyst for reverse engineering the musical soundscape.
“I started writing music three or four months before shooting,” said the “Black Panther” Oscar winner, who was available when Hans Zimmer committed to Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune.” Chris was actually in town and we had a lot of time together, listening to demos I created, so we analyzed every little sound, and we started building our sound world very early. When Chris first mentioned that he wanted the guitar to not sound like a guitar, I had to rethink how to record a guitar with a lot of sonic options. That...

“Soul” is in, but “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is out: That’s the message the Academy’s music branch is sending to members who began voting today for the shortlists for both song and score.
Disney-Pixar’s “Soul” has been declared eligible for the original-score Oscar, but the song from Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was missing from the song list, indicating that the music-branch executive committee disqualified it from consideration.
Voters from the Academy’s approximately 375-member music branch will choose 15 songs and 15 scores for the shortlists (to be announced Feb. 9) that will be the basis for final voting for the five nominees in each category. The Academy qualified 105 songs and 136 scores.
The biggest question was: would “Soul” qualify for original score? It initially appeared doubtful, as Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s dramatic score constituted less than the required 60 percent of total music in the film; and Jon Batiste’s jazz,...

Filmed in exotic locations ranging from India and Norway to Italy’s sun-kissed Mediterranean coast, Christopher Nolan’s reality-warping film “Tenet” looks like it was a lot of fun to be an actor in.
However, creating the music to accompany it was clearly no yacht cruise. What kind of music evokes a world where (spoiler alert) the characters can experience reality both backward and forward, receive messages from the future, and encounter themselves and others in the present and the past?
Nolan decided very early in the film’s production that the person he wanted to handle the score was Swedish-born Ludwig Goransson, who not only won an Oscar for his work on the 2018 Chadwick Boseman-starring “Black Panther” but also won Grammys for his work on that film as well as his production on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” one of many songs the two have collaborated on.

Travis Scott has teamed up with M.I.A. and Young Thug for his latest single, “Franchise.” On Thursday, he also premiered the video at IMAX screenings for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet before sharing it on YouTube at midnight.
The new visual, which the rapper self-directed alongside White Trash Tyler, was partially filmed at Michael Jordan’s Chicago area mansion. Korean actress Oh In-hye died of a cardiac arrest in a South Korea hospital on Monday evening. She was 36.
Earlier in the day, a friend found Oh unconscious at her home in Incheon, South Korea. Oh was transported to Inha University Hospital and at one point was reported to be recovering, though she did not reawaken.
The circumstances leading up to her death have not been announced by a coroner, and investigations are still ongoing. However, it is strongly suspected that she died by suicide.
“We have found no reason to suspect murder and there were no signs of intrusion into Ms. Oh’s house,” a police spokesperson said. “It appears she made an extreme choice.” The police also explained that Oh had been suffering from depression.
Oh debuted in the 2011 film “Sin of A Family,” but attracted notoriety the same year for wearing a revealing dress to an awards ceremony.

After a lengthy collaboration with Hans Zimmer, the seasoned composer’s duties scoring Dune, No Time to Die, Top Gun: Maverick, Wonder Woman 1984, and other projects meant Christopher Nolan needed to find a new collaborator. He turned to Oscar-winner Ludwig Göransson and the result is a bombastic score clocking in at nearly 90 minutes. It’s also now arrived in full online as the film continues to expand in its theatrical run.
“I know from watching his films how savvy he is with music, how much he understands it, but I didn’t fully know that he could speak about it almost like a trained musician,” the composer said of Nolan. “So, I was blown away by that. And also, just the way that he’s open with experimentation, and pushes me to really try out new things, and things that I maybe would think that people want to hold off on,...
