Former U.S. treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin has added to his stake in Lionsgate, which now totals nearly $50 million, including last year’s purchases.
In a securities filing Thursday, an equity fund controlled by Mnuchin disclosed a 7.9 percent stake in Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.’s Class A voting shares. That’s a step up from the 5.5 percent holding in the Hollywood studio first acquired by Mnuchin’s fund in fall 2023 for about $30.8 million.
A Lionsgate spokesperson declined comment on Mnuchin’s latest stock accumulation, part of share purchases revealed in the regulatory filing by Liberty Strategic Capital, a private equity fund led by Mnuchin and which has no ties to John Malone’s Liberty Global.

In a new uInterview, Louise Linton and Kristen Ruhlin shared their experience making the film Chick Flick.
Linton explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers how she starred in the original film in 2013, but after finishing it still felt that something was missing.
“I loved the script. I thought it was so charming but this sort of predated a lot of the social media and dating apps. But I really identified with what this story was about and we had a great time filming it. And then once the filmmakers were in the edit, we just had the feeling that the story wasn’t sort of connecting the way that we’d all intended.”
After deciding to reshoot the movie, Linton decided to update it by adding Tinder, Bumble and other online dating platforms to the storyline.
“We added 50% to the screenplay and reshot quite a bit of it both in Washington,...

Former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin appears to be pursuing a return to the film business.
In a securities filing Tuesday, a fund controlled by Mnuchin disclosed a 5.5 percent stake in Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.’s Class A voting shares. Mnuchin’s fund acquired the stake in the parent company of Lionsgate and Starz on the open market over the past few weeks for about $30.8 million.
A Lionsgate spokesperson declined to comment. A spokesperson for Mnuchin had not responded to a request for comment, as of writing.
According to the SEC filing, Mnuchin appears to have a particular interest in the plan to spin out its studio assets, which is now set for early 2024 given the ongoing Hollywood strikes. The filing specifically mentions a “potential investment by the Reporting Persons in a spin-off of the Issuer’s studio business.”

Louise Linton surely knows what much of the country thinks of her. The much-maligned wife of former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has been widely ridiculed during the past four years for such cringeworthy moments as holding up freshly printed bills at the U.S. Mint while wearing black leather gloves, an image that provoked many to compare her to Cruella de Vil.
So it’s refreshing that her directorial/screenwriting debut Me You Madness, in which she stars as a fashion- and fitness-obsessed narcissistic serial killer, very much indicates that she’s in on the joke. The problem is that it’s ...

This key art for Louise Linton's high-camp bisexual thriller, Me You Madness, has all the brash hallmarks of 'stuff I like' in a poster: Super saturated colour, minimal design elements, pink and neon, and unabashed absurdity. The lime green squirt gun, the aquarium-print dress (and matching coral earrings) and the incongruent aviator shades on her battered face contrasted with the half-smile. It is in your face, all right. However, it is not at all any kind of button-pushing stuff, and more along the lines of farcical fantasy. Maybe we need more of this after such an unstable year in the industry, and around the world....

"There's no need to escalate this to the point of no return!" STX Films has unveiled an official trailer for a dark comedy called Me You Madness, a kooky neon-filled romcom mashed up with American Psycho. Louise Linton stars in, wrote, directed, and produced the tongue-in-cheek movie. Linton plays Catherine Black, a brilliant, ruthless business executive who runs a top hedge fund in L.A. She lives a wealthy but ice-cold life and is a self-declared murderous psychopath. Enter Tyler Jones, a handsome young petty-thief and con man, arriving at her Malibu estate seeking "a room for rent" while naively unaware that he might be her next meal. Co-starring Ed Westwick as Tyler, along with Joel Michaely, Shuya Chang, and Gwen Van Dam. "Romance blossoms amid glamorous action in this neon-tinged, self-aware erotic thriller riff from writer/director/star Louise Linton, driven by a high-energy 80s soundtrack." This looks ridiculous.
