Pitch Black (2000)
A "could have been great" movie!
I went into this movie thinking that it was going to be a rather typical special effects sci-fi flick trying to get money without having to write much of a script. To my surprise I was right for the most part, but there was something in the movie that made it a lot better than the regular no plot sci-fi movies. Usually I dont go to Sci-Fi movies for the direction but the way this movie was directed intrigued me. The lighting was perfect, there were many cool shots and camera views, and great integration of special effects and characters. Which brings me to the characters in the movie...they were great. It would have been nice to get some more character development for most of them but the ones that did get some charcater development made terrific characters...and the actors did well playing their characters which helps. Van Diesel especially...I'm sure we'll be hearing from him in many more movies in the coming years. So much potential in this movie that just didnt get used at all. At the end it felt like it was just a bunch of stuff that happened. I didnt see a point in it...nothing really tied in to anything else. I gave it a weary 6/10 because it did intrigue me...and I suggest that if you really like Sci-Fi you should check it out. Otherwise it would probably be a good idea to see the re-release of American Beauty instead!

West Beyrouth (À l'abri les enfants) (1998)
Pretty Real...pretty beautiful.
I saw a preview for this movie when I was visiting Montreal early this July and when I came back home to California I had no idea where I could go to see it because it looked so good. Yesterday I saw it in LA with family and friends and each one of them walked out of the movie just amazed. I'm 18 and I lived in Lebanon till I was 8 and I could relate to so many parts of the movie. It captured so many real emotions and moments that happened to so many families and teenagers and kids at that time. The directing is great and the acting progresses and gets better and better as the movie comes along. The movie is not only for those who could relate to the war in Lebanon however, it is a good enough movie to keep you laughing and crying and in suspense the whole time. IF you can find this movie playing anywhere near you dont miss it!
Rush Hour (1998)
Hilarious!!!
Tucker and Chan make such an excellent team! It was sooo hilarious! I loved Money Talks, but I thought this one was better because it had much more of a plot and Chan was a much better co-star than Charlie Scheen. The whole theatre couldnt stop laughing and when they weren't laughing they cheered Jackie Chan on. When the movie ended everyone clapped for like 3 minutes and pretty loudly too! Thats how good it was! I definitely recommend it if you like comedy! 9 of 10.
The Negotiator (1998)
A totally awesome movie!
This is a very good movie! It will keep you in suspense the whole time, and get your blood rising. It gets you to the point where you feel the cops pains and you wanna be in there and help him out! It is worth what you pay for it and it will keep you on your seat and entertained. Spacey does an excellent job in his role as well as Samuel L. Jackson in his. The movie starts out in black and white...a true sign of a good movie (like the Fugitive and others). Go see it..you'll like it.
