Wonderful
15 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I just stumbled on this today and me and my boyfriend binge watched all of them. I cried my eyes out over Carrow. It's amazing how special effects don't matter when the story is actually engaging and the dialogue is so good. The acting has improved so much since the very first Gamers that I watched a long time ago. I am so happy to see Dead Gentlemen is still going. This makes me want to game more than I have in a long time. Good Job to every one...please save Carrow....

Best Family Sitcom EVER
7 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I think Roseanne is the BEST family show in TV history. Even in my disappointment at the last season I still feel it deserves the titles of Best Family sitcom ever. I feel so connected to the characters and their lives. People who have only watched a couple of episodes and judged this series as garbage aren't at liberty to judge. Even if you don't identify with the family or it doesn't align with your family values, any intelligent person would have to admit that the writing and characterizations are some of the most honest and sincere of any that have been on TV. Roseanne was also one of the most groundbreaking series as it tackled issues no other show had attempted to. I think it's sad that there are actually people out there who haven't watched this show or hate it because they think Roseanne is gross and "vulgar". The show isn't just Roseanne it's a group effort. This show's success is the writing and cast, the entire cast. Good job to everyone involved. Honest, Compelling, Hilarious, and Heartbreaking. 10 out of 10.

Vehicle for new talent
21 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit I was disappointed in this movie. I love Margaret O'Brien and think she was one of the most talented child stars ever. If you expect to see another great O'Brien performance don't hold your breath. The scene where she is pretending to be an old lady was just god awful. Mannerisms that were endearing in her early work were kind of annoying and embarrassing in this one. This story was nothing more than a vehicle to showcase new talent. I hate when Hollywood does that. When I watch a movie I expect to be drawn into a world of the writer's imagining, not treated to a variety hour. If you love Irving Berlin and music from the 40s you will love this movie. My aunt bought this movie along with several other O'Brien movies. I think she should get her money back on this one.

Warning: Spoilers
Any social commentary or message this film was trying to make was lost amid the grotesque and the obscene. People can try to convince me that this movie was brilliant, but all I witnessed was torture for the sake of torture. It was exploitation and an excuse just to see someone get horribly mutilated. I don't enjoy gore or the suffering of other people. I can't understand anyone who would want to watch this multiple times. I guess serial killers who aren't all that imaginative can really brush up on their techniques and skills. These movies are like training videos for the depraved and insane. Way to go Hollywood. How about on Oscar night when you stand up there and announce to the world how "Movies have the power to change the world", maybe you should take responsibility for the movies that corrupt it too. Oh no you'd never do that. There is no way Hollywood would admit that a lot of the crap they produce changes the world for the worst. When it's something good they take credit and when it's horrible it's the parents responsibility to make sure their children aren't corrupted.

Simple Way of Life
11 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie captured the sadness of dried up towns in America. There is so much more to America than the big cities. There are small towns all over this country that are slowly dying out. Railroad towns, Route 66 towns etc. Every time I go home and visit the town I grew up in I am saddened by how much it has declined. I wish I could live back home, but there are no jobs.

The use of shadows in this movie is probably what struck me the most. The shadow of Mack on the side of the road as he's traveling, the dappled effect on the road as Sally and Lightening are driving, etc. Everything is so subtle that you forget that it's not real. That a group of people actually sat and created this world is astounding. We're so jaded and cynical about everything. This movie was obviously a labor of love for Pixar and it shows.

I would suggest this movie to anyone who is given to nostalgia and sentimentality, especially for Americana. If you're not then this movie might be boring to you.

The Body from season five *spoilers*
5 June 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't start watching this series until it was cancelled. I had no desire to watch it as I figured it was some WB Dawsons Creek meets Vampires series so I avoided it like the plague. I was at the library one day and bored and they had the first season on DVD so I decided to get it and watch it. I've had the unique experience of watching up to 5 seasons in 3 months. I also feel sad now that I didn't get to experience it the way others have with anticipation. When there is a cliff hanger I just put in the next disc. Instant Gratification!! I think Joss did a very difficult thing in allowing his characters to grow and change in ways that the fans may not have liked. It would be very easy for him to have kept them going like season one and very boring. I can't give an overview of the series since I haven't seen anything from season 6 or 7 yet, but I would like to comment on one particular episode and how it affected me. The Body the episode where Buffy finds her mother dead on the couch. That episode was probably the most realistic reaction to death I've ever seen expressed on TV or on film. Buffy finds her mother and it's brutal in it's use of silence and buffy's walking through the house trying to cope as she throws up and then cleans it up with paper towels. The fact that they took time to demonstrate that starkness of reality when someone leaves the mortal coil expresses a deep love for these characters. When you are grieving silence can be deafening. The scoobies reactions to having to then deal with their best friend's grief was also painfully realistic. Joyce got on my nerves in the beginning episodes but I started to really like the character. I also think having Joyce die of natural causes was brilliant to show Buffy's character her powerlessness. If it had been Glory she would have at least felt like she could have stopped it. This way deep down she knows there was nothing she could have done, which is ultimately more frightening. My mom's best friend lost her husband from an embolism. He was sitting at the breakfast table clutched the side of his neck and said "uh oh" and died. My mom's other best friend was brutally killed by her son. Both of these losses were very hard and very sudden no one expected it, but the one in which no intervention would have mattered seemed the most unbearable. Anya's reaction was quite possibly the most painful in her assessment of what Joyce would miss out on in life. It's sad to know I only have 2 more seasons to enjoy this process.

The Gift (2000)

and it was quite a gift *possible spoilers*
25 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this last night and was blown away. It was extremely well acted and has some great scenes. I am not going to give away the ending. I wasn't disappointed that I had figured out who the killer was because there was still a little extra twist that I enjoyed. Most people I've spoken to havent' seen this movie. I think Keanu did a fantastic job which is amazing since I can't stand him in almost everything he is in. Hillary Swank was amazing and that hair was perfect. I kept thinking I know this person while watching her. I got the feeling that Kinnear was sort of doing a walk through performance. He's done much better work. I couldn't help feeling Cate was too regal for this part. She did a much better job pulling off the blue color gal in Pushing Tin. Of course it was effective in making her seem out of her element. She's sort of ethereal in this film. Very entertaining and enthralling I highly recommend it.

***Spoilers***
10 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is well made, well acted, and has some great visuals. It was very creepy and I enjoyed watching the story unfold. I have to disagree with people who have said it relied on run of the mill scare techniques. The story was compelling. I was sure that the video was going to be some mish mash of unexplained ambiguous crap meant only to scare and disgust the audience. Instead it's like a map of clues, albeit deadly ones. They didn't come right out and mention psychic photography, but that is what I believe it was. You see that when they show the negatives from her file. In the beginning, the teenager says they put a tape in that was supposed to have been football. Instead a bunch of strange images appear. These were images from the ghost of a girl capable of psychic photography. That was compelling in and of itself. The reporter follows the visual clues which lead her to the body of the girl and you assume that once she's peacefully buried it will all be over. This is what most ghost movies end up being. I was sitting there thinking...why would she kill innocent people...when the woman's son drops the bomb about "why did you let her out of the dark place you weren't supposed to". A lot of people haven't understood why her son had to make a copy or why she lived because she did. It's simple she gave the girl a victim, her son's father. The chilling part was the question the boy posed of "What happens to the person we show the video too?" Theoretically the cycle can end by the woman being smart enough to say. Hey watch this and make a copy of it....etc etc. I was uneasy after watching it, but not terrified. It's well worth watching.

Very Simple Film
2 January 2003
Well, I can't say that the film is as good as his previous work. I still feel "Unbreakable" was his best film. I did think the plot to this was very weak and predictable and not at all as good as his other efforts, but something about how simple this was appealed to me. I love that it's slow and takes it's time. I truly enjoyed the characters and came to care about them. It frustrates me that it fell so short when it had such potential. Phoenix was excellent in this and pretty much stole the show. Also the little boy played by Rory Culkin was very good and a much better actor than his older brother. The little girl was adorable and I really enjoyed the touch of her obsession with water. Gibson did a good job and it was nice to see him in a role were he wasn't the almighty hero with all the answers. In this he was a broken man who really didn't know how to handle the situation. His weakness was scorned by his children. I think there were strong performances from everyone even the local cop who I thought was fantastic. If you can get around the sub-plot of the aliens it's a very nice film. That's right I said sub-plot. The main point isn't about regaining faith either. The main point is that events in our lives happen for reasons we couldn't comprehend, but they happen for a reason. For people bent out shape over the religious aspects I just have to say get over it. It was a very simple film with a simple message. I enjoyed it and the people in the audience with me seemed to enjoy it enough to clap at the end. Although not everyone applauded I think we all got more than our money's worth. (50 cents)

Too Intense for Small Children *spoilers*
29 November 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was better than the first. I've read all the books and am impatiently waiting for the next. Each book gets darker and darker as Harry gets older. All I have to say to people complaining that this was too much like the first is what did you expect? Just to fill you in the entire series is about Harry Potter, a boy wizard and his adventures at the Hogwarts. Guess what? He's going to interact with the same set of characters and he's going to be battling the same evil threat every time, which is his nemesis Voldemort. Here are some Major Spoilers. In case you missed it....Malfoy plants the diary in the Weasley girl's bag. She starts interacting with it. Volemort's spirit is in the diary and starts to thrive on her energy. She gets scared and tries to throw it away. Potter finds it. Which enlightens him about Hagrid's past at the school. It's more of a mystery than the first one. On a special note..Gilderoy Lockhart was not "the bad guy" he was an arrogant, cowardly, blowhard. The continuing theme in the books is that Hogwarts keeps losing their Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. If I sound overly sarcastic and patronizing it's because I am. This movie is way too intense for little kids, but both of them are going to be classics just like Willy Wonka and Wizard of Oz, because they ARE too intense for little kids. We adults may not think of them as classics, but we're not the ones who are currently being mesmerized and captivated. Of course the child in me is completely bewitched by the entire series. This may be why the Xian sects are all up in arms. They want their children fearing hell and damnation, not a wizard who can be defeated by a little boy. I've heard all the arguments of why Harry Potter is luring kids to witchcraft....so what if it is? I say we can use more witches and warlocks in this world and less religious bigotry, repression and ignorant violent behavior ignited over say.... a beauty pageant. It's highly entertaining and original and is classic just like The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, The Dark Crystal, Nightmare Before X-mas.

P.S. The Basilisk was incredible!! ;->

Spoilers
26 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I avoided this movie for a while. I thought it was better than usual Hollywood fare, but it wasn't exactly ground breaking. I was entertained. Frankly I am not sure where the mystery lies in the ending. It's pretty obvious that Mr. Porter lost his mind and Prot beamed into him like some Quantum Leap episode. Basically he used Porter's body as a host until he beamed away leaving Porter a broken shell of a man. This is why he remained at the hospital because he knew Porter would need help. My main problem was with Spacey. I think he's an awesome actor and was far more impressed with him under hypnosis than the bland sometimes creepy Prot. For example he really reminded me of his character in SEVEN. I kept waiting for him to murder his fellow patients. It had some good ideas which apparently it stole from some other south American film. I will need to check that out as I rarely take anyone's word on anything. It is a movie you can watch with your family. I was impressed that they didn't have him using any alien powers to wow and amaze. It sort of reminded me of Highway to Heaven. Landon's character did use powers once in a while but mostly used the power of compassion and concern. I think in an effort to show that you don't have to be unearthly to make a difference.

Excellent TV movie
26 August 2002
I checked this out last night from our Library. I was more than a little surprised by how good it was. I hadn't read Rue Morgue since I was in 6th grade, so I didn't remember the plot. This seems to have upset a few people, since apparently the movie didn't follow the plot of the original story. I truly enjoyed it and if hadn't been for the segways I wouldn't have known it was made for TV. It looked great and is by far one of the best made for TV movies I've ever seen...especially given that it was made in 1986. George C Scott is always such a presence on screen. If you get a chance please watch in on VHS instead of TV with all the commercial breaks. You could probably find it at a library..if you live in a metro area.

Beautiful Silence *huge spoilers*
12 July 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say this is the most underrated film I've ever seen. I knew little about the movie other than Bruce Willis survives a train wreck beyond that I had no clue what it was about. What a huge, glorious treat. When it was over my boyfriend and I just sat in the dark silently for a while and then were up til 2 am and cuddling and talking about the movie, life etc. This is what movies should do. Evoke a strong emotional response in their audience and be highly entertaining. As for people who didn't "get it". Try viewing the movie next time without blinders. Here is a brief synopsis of what the movie is about. It's about an ordinary man who finds out he isn't very ordinary after all. His feelings of melancholy about his life soon transferred to all aspects and he eventually was a shadow of his former self and contributed nothing as a father or as a husband. He finds out he is in fact extraordinary and that he has a higher purpose in life which is to use his gifts to help mankind. The brilliant twist with Jackson at the end was like poetry in motion. The subtle hints about Jackson are beautiful..the dazzling material we see peaking out of his overcoat now and again. I don't think I made the connection until the gallery when his mother explains to Willis about the two kinds of heroes. Then I felt stupid for not putting it together sooner. How lovely that he took such care with character development and pacing. I am sorry waited for video on this.

The Osbournes (2002–2005)
A Car Wreck
3 July 2002
I have to admit I watch this show if I come across it. I just can't look away. I don't make a point of watching it sometimes it just happens. I think Kelly is adorable, intelligent, and is a better role model for teen girls compared to the some of the slutty drones that promote Pepsi and Coke these days. I think it's great that she isn't some waif that looks like a strong breeze is going to blow her over. I hope she stays just how she is. I think comments about her being fat and needing to call Jenny Craig are childish, ignorant and obviously from someone who has their head secured up Hollywood's bunghole. Not every person on TV and the movies has to look like Ally McBeal. TV still hasn't realized the people want to watch people like themselves. This is why this show is so popular this is why Roseanne was popular. We are all flawed and accepting those flaws in the people we watch on TV helps us to accept them in one another. So kudos to The Osbournes may they reign supreme.

The Dead Zone (2002–2007)
Not bad
17 June 2002
I watched this last night. I was sleepy and stayed awake until the end. I thought it was pretty good. I have always liked Anthony Michael Hall and it's good to see him again. The last thing I remember him in was "6 degrees of separation". This is a series I plan on watching unless they change the time slot. I think if they leave it in its time slot it could rack up a good following. When they move shows around on cable TV it's easy to lose track of them. I loved the original movie and like that they based the tv show off of it, but I have no expectations. I am also looking forward to Monk. I think if they run these two back to back they could produce a double threat. Then again I haven't seen Monk yet, but I have a good feeling about it.

Atomic Twister (2002 TV Movie)
1/10
Columbus, OH
10 June 2002
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS This is quite possibly the worst made for TV movie I have ever seen. Of course it is still fresh in my mind. I have chuckled all day while thinking of it. I think I'd even watch it again because it was such an unwitting comedy. The portrayal of women in this little fiasco is by far the most naïve and immature rendering that I've seen in quite a while. We are treated to the irrational ex-girlfriend who dumped her fiancé because he wouldn't set a date who is furious that he's dating girls who hate her. Granted I know women who are like this, but I am really tired of this same person representing my gender in Hollywood. The kind of women who demand an explanation before they will step away from the explosive device set to go off in 2 seconds. The character does this when asked to leave town and instead of obeying her father she has to run down to the department and demand an explanation. We're also treated to the shift supervisor who wants to leave her post to go in search of her son in the middle of a meltdown. She also cleverly leaves the phone, their only contact with the NRC, in the open doorway so it can get sucked out when the second tornado hits. There are some movies that are so bad they make me angry this really wasn't one of them. I laughed a lot. I really enjoyed the part where they have to shut down the main reactor manually. The shift supervisor, the man who thinks she only got the job because she is a woman, and some idiot wearing a Kiss T-shirt who must have been someone's relative to get the job. If nuclear plants are really run by these kinds of people we better all start digging shelters. They go to shut down the main reactor and the main supervisor shows up to tell them they have 3 minutes to do it or he locking them in. They react by staring at each other. It cuts to scenes of other people doing stuff and back to them….still staring at each other and shuffling their feet. It gets down to 1 minute and the old guy pipes in that he will do it since he screwed up and shut down the electric pumps. The two react by going….ok and hauling ass. I was gasping for breath at this point. The best part was the tornado that snuck up on a guy. He was on his cell phone asking if anyone had issued a tornado watch or warning and turns around there is a tornado coming right at him. So the shift supervisor comes across him feels for a pulse and then just leaves him lying there. This is pre-meltdown stage. This is supposedly someone she knows and works with and she leaves his body outside the building and goes about her business. If you get a chance, and have nothing else to do, be sure to catch this cinematic triumph.

Square Pegs (1982–1983)
Still in My Head
27 March 2002
I haven't seen this TV show since it aired originally. I couldn't believe it only lasted a year. For years I thought that Linker was Jennifer Connely. This came about from an article I read in a teen magazine. Funny how misinformation will stick in your head just like correct information. While looking up Jennifer and seeing the omission of Square Pegs. I looked up Square Pegs to find it wasn't her at all. After reading the user comments here it struck a chord with me. My friends and I still quote the TV show. How does a show that made this big of an impact on my pre-teen mind, and apparently a lot of others, get canceled? I mean I thought I was just weird since I am the only one who liked Manimal and Patrick Duffy in Man from Atlantis. I loved this series and always wish I could see it again. Then again I don't won't to disturb the memory. I remember what a witch Muffy was. Every time Parker would show up in something I would think "Hey there's the girl from Square Pegs!!" Of course I thought the same thing every time Connely showed up...and was wrong ALL these years...the shame of it. ;->

Warning: Spoilers
I love movies that test the boundaries. I guess how comfortable you are watching a film is how wide your boundaries are. For me this movie not only crossed my boundaries, but criss-crossed them. I couldn't finished watching it. I stopped watching it when the pedophile was trying to find the address to the little boy that was left home alone. I just couldn't take it and I had no desire to find out what happened. I could have enjoyed the movie if it weren't for the pedophile. It wasn't just that he was a pedophile. It was his creepy desperation and his haunted humanity. I just couldn't sit through it so I didn't vote on it.

additional comments
3 January 2002
Some people have asked in the comments how dare we put it up there with movies like "The Godfather" or other "beloved" classics. Do I think it's as good as "The Godfather"? Yes I do. It's better in my opinion simply because I am a huge fan of fantasy. The Godfather is a classic, but it also bored the *&^% out of me. I really don't care about criminals or their lifestyles and I really hate movies that sensationalize them. 17,000 people have loved this film enough to give it a 10. It's my guess that the vast majority of this 17,000 are avid movie lovers which is why they have sought out a website like IMDB in the first place. I base my first opinion on whether a movie is good or not...on whether I enjoyed it, learned something from it, or it evoked some emotional response. I can appreciate Citizen Kane for it's contribution to movie making and directing, but if given a choice of watching it or LOTR over and over again locked in a room for 24 hours...guess which one I'd choose. "Our Vines Have Tender Young Grapes" "Ghostbusters" "The Ox-Bow Incident" "Night of the Hunter" "How Green Was My Valley" "Empire Strikes Back" "Jane Eyre (1944)" "On Borrowed Time" "Excalibur" "The Thing" "Windwalker" "Babette's Feast" etc These are among my favorite movies and I think LOTR would fine them pleasant company. Don't assume that the votes given to this movie were uneducated ones just because you believe yourself some sort of aficionado of the cinema. I still believe that it's unfair of people to give this movie a 1 just because they're trying to change it's rank in the top 250. I'd much rather see a movie about the humble and unassuming overcoming great odds to defeat evil like LOTR in number 1, than a movie about selfish brutes killing one another and upholding archaic outdated notions of honor in "The Godfather".

I thought this was a fairly good made for tv-movie...what? It wasn't made for TV....Mr. Reeves was horrible in this. Spader tried to save it, but couldn't. Very average movie. Not awful, not good, not spectacular....just one of those things that fill the void of time.

Bedazzled and Bespelled be Me
24 December 2001
God bless Mr. Jackson. Dear Santa make sure Mr. Jackson has lots of good stuff in his stocking this year he has been a very good boy. First, let me say to the people who gave this a 1.....it's called imagination look into it. The fact that over 10,000 people gave it a 10 and 337 gave it a 1 tells me something is really wrong...like maybe people are giving it a 1 to keep it from having such a high score. I admit I've done this once myself. After I had voted I thought to myself that I should have just cast my actual vote instead of trying to affect the rating. I am hoping that directors the world over will watch this film and get a clue on how a fantasy movie should be made. Ian McKellan as Gandalf was absolute magic!! He played him without the usual bravado. Actors usually ruin fantasy characters with an attempt to seem grandiose, larger than life, and it ends up simply being annoying. Ian Holm played Bilbo splendidly. In fact, the entire cast was perfect. People who aren't interested in fantasy will not understand how important this movie is to the genre and to fans everywhere. HUZZAH!!! to everyone involved in this film. I am so happy. ;->

Magical
27 November 2001
When I saw this in the movie theater I actually set forward on my seat the entire movie. I was completely captivated. This movie took a lot of work and it shows. Jack is such a wonderful character. The music is excellent. When the opening music starts it pulls you into the story. It's rare that I see a movie that stirs my childlike imagination. This movie brought back all my anticipation as a child. I remember how exciting it was every holiday waiting for the x-mas programs to air on TV. With the advent of cable and VCRs I feel sad for the kids who won't get to experience that joy, but I am sure they have their own experiences to look forward to. I thought it was amusing to hear people complain about how "dark" the movie was. I asked them what they thought Halloween town should look like? I pointed out how bright and festive X-mas town was. That usually shuts them up. If that doesn't work there is always duct tape. ;-P

thought provoking *spoilers*
26 November 2001
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a little slow at first, but the content was so provocative that I couldn't turn it off. I'm glad I didn't. This movie follows its own path. If you haven't seen this movie then please don't read the rest of this. This movie doesn't play by the rules. There is a scene where you see Ghost Dog walking down the street and he notices a criminal shadowing this old man carrying a bunch of grocery bags. My first thought was...ok here we go...he's going to have to rescue him. The old man beats the crap out of the would be attacker. The old man was asian (or I assumed so because he knew a martial art)so I thought ok...he's going to engage the old man in conversation or that the old man was going to be a real samurai. NOPE didn't happen. I was thrilled. It was an isolated incident. There are a number of these incidents. Ghost Dog encounters a number of young black men and or course hollywood has us trained that we assume that there is going to be a conflict. Instead there is a respectful exchange of salutation. I knew that Jarmusch didn't play by the rules so I expected some of this, but this was something new. It was very refreshing. Please see this movie if you haven't yet, but if you haven't you shouldn't be reading this far. ;->

I loved this movie. Having worked for two major corporations in this country I can tell you how accurate it was. I never got the Dilbert cartoons until I worked for "the man". This movie reminds me of Dilbert just because of the subject matter it's based on. I thought all of the characters were very engaging. I had a great time watching this movie. Mike Judge should do more work like this. This movie and clockwatchers are one of the few movies that have truly captured working in the 90s. Working for big business amounts to being a drone or some sort of docile herd animal whose lifeforce they feed upon. When he broke free of that I felt great joy. Excellent movie I highly recommend it.

Well, I usually love this type of film and I love Mike Myers. There was something missing in this movie and kept it from being great. I can't forgive it for that. I mean when I laughed which was maybe twice they were really good laughs, but that isn't enough to make a movie great. Granted every movie doesn't have to be a masterpiece, but when you obviously put so much time into something you should make sure it's complete. I think part of the problem was Eddie Murphy as the donkey. It was very annoying and just not funny at all....period. The three blind mice were great. The basic plot was good. They should have spent more time with the relationship between the ogre and the princess. Throughout the movie I was either grossed out or shocked. Hopefully the next one will be better, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
