Mom and Dad Save the World (1992)
not exactly film noir, but ......
Unless you must be intellectually stimulated in order to be entertained, this film will surprise you. Inane and irreverent this film exemplifies the true meaning of film ...... escapism. Escape your everyday life and see life on a planet where DUMB is the rule rather than the exception. While not the best film in history, the plot has some merits and the production values are cheesy, but intentional. I found myself actually laughing out loud more than once.
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
touching and funny
Another example of the unique talents of Cary Grant. A performance worthy of Oscar consideration, yet once again shunned by the Academy. Mr. Grant runs the gamut from silly to tender in this marvelous comedy about a man who decides to move out of the big city. The pitfalls of building a home are well chronicled and became the basis (loosely) for the more modern Tom Hanks vehicle, "The Money Pit".
If you like good old fashioned comedy without the cursing and the gratuitous sex, this movie is a must see.
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
One of the best performances by one of the most under-rated actors.
Cary Grant, never won an Oscar. A flagrant mistake by The Academy. If we could go back and give Mr. Grant his due, several roles would doubtless come to mind, but the quintessential Mortimer Brewster of this film could only be played by Cary Grant. His classic double-takes and frantic comic antics are unparalleled. I find myself laughing out loud no matter how many times I have seen the film. Truly one of the classic comedies. I only regret that I cannot give it an 11.
