Throughly enjoyed
21 February 2004
My wife and I went to see this movie being Adam Sandler fans. We thought this was a great vehicle for Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The movie had everything - drama, comedy, suspense, romance. We also enjoyed that it espoused family values. Even though Ula (Rob Schneider) had a warped sense of love for his family, it was evident. His kids were always with him and though he made cracks about his wife they were together. Like so Lucy's family and friends supported her and took care of her the best they new how. To finish, the movie also showed what real love is. Henry demonstrated sacrificial love for Lucy. Certainly not the pinnacle of excellent theater but it isn't intended to be. It is a good movie with minimal offensive elements that embraces true love and family values. We'll watch this one again.

Fun to watch but watch close
14 November 2003
The real fun of this movie is to see if you can catch all the gags in it such as the show frog eating flys and the man sneaking away with him as in the cartoon. I'll have to watch it again to catch them all. It was also fun to see them use stuff from other films and shows such as the Daleks saying "exterminate, exterminate" What a hoot. The movie is so so, good, not great IMNHO and they did give plenty of safe eye candy for the men in the audience.

A delightfully funny movie
1 March 2003
Some people seem to have to trash any movie as if that's being a critic. This is a very fun movie to watch. Chantal's (Sandra Dee) marriage has become ho hum and her husband seems to be more interested in work, with models no less, then his new wife so Chantal sets out to renew the spark their relationship once had but she finds no success. Then her mother suggests a book on training a dog to her. At first Chantal is repulsed but having no success any other way why not give it a try. The result is a madcap, whirlwind comedy from the good old days with the tables being turned on Chantal and her mother. This movie isn't on video but if it ever airs on TV again don't miss it! You'll enjoy being entertained and won't even miss the shock content directors add these days. The movie is a film of the play by the same name. Don't miss it and don't let jaded psuedo-critics dissuade you from watching this fun movie with more then one insightful point to ponder.

Excellent movie, notice the characters
23 December 2002
This is a better movie then many professional critics would lead you to believe. It's not over the top on any one aspect but rather a quality made and witty love story. As with every story like this the astute viewer knows how the story will end so the pleasure of this movie is to enjoy the characters or rather how the actors play the characters. Sandra Bullock is delightful and I enjoyed that this movie played down the physical comedy Miss Bullock does so well but still showed us the lovable, clumsy person we saw in Miss Congeniality. Hugh Grant is excellent at the (not so) shallow George Wade. One can almost see the character trying to not let on that he knows exactly who people think he is and so strives to maintain that personage while actually being pretty brilliant at what he does. Dana Ivey and Robert Klein too played the roles of the liberal, lawyer parents with wit and depth. This is not a 'bust your gut' funny story or a 'two hankie' love story. It is a satisfying character study of two people on a collision course for love. This movie could be the basis of a satisfying sequel by keeping the characters and bringing them out more. Sandra Bullock is one actress this person would enjoy meeting in person.

Excellent example of what a movie can be.
11 November 2000
In this stirring movie director Robert Redford shows what can be done without "in your face" language, violence, or sex. What he created is a movie that stirs, challenges, inspires, and creates awe in the viewer. The movie reinvigorates appreciation for lost values, fighting for one's country, adversity in terrible situations, honesty, and appreciation for other people's abilities and contributions. The movie is cinematically lush, the sound track is appropriate but not intrusive, the language fits the situation, and the actors are at the top of their art. I saw this movie twice in one evening and my interest was held at each viewing. Thumbs up to Director Redford, Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Matt Damon for cinematography at it's best. My only reason for a 9 instead of a 10 is some aspects of the story line were not sufficiently explored but this is due to length constraints. Furthermore the lack does not detract from the movie but rather would have added to the movie's impact.

A total dog of a movie
3 July 1999
This is the worst movie I have seen in a long time. I watched it all the way through hoping for some redeeming ending but there was none. I was very glad to see that this is only the second movie for Sandra Bullock.
