American Pie (1999)
All about SEX
If you looking for an intelligent, well-though-out script with witty humor, top-notch acting and a flowing story line, don't rent this movie, but if you looking for a movie that is a satarical look at puberty and will create some deep belly laughs, then look no further. Although there is one character that ends up developing a deep relationship, by accident, this movie is all about a bunch of high school boys scheming to get laid. There are some very memorable scenes that you will never forget.
Very Bad Things (1998)
VERY BAD MOVIE
This movie is just plain BAD. I can't believe it has an average rating of over 5.0. If I could rate it a negative number I would. Bad story line, bad acting, bad chemistry, bad message.
Maybe some remember the skit on Saturday Night Live Bad Musical. Well this would be the number 1 candidate for Bad Totally Bad -Movie.
It is neither a comedy nor is it a thriller. It is too gory and overacted to be a comedy, and it is too predictable to be suspenseful. The message this sends to the youth of the world that are watching with learning eyes is disgraceful.
Save your money and 100 minutes of your time and stay away from this movie.
Wild Wild West (1999)
6 out of 10
I can't believe that this movie would garner more 1 votes than 5 votes. It's at least average. To say that it is not worth the price of a $.97 rental is outrageous. The bottom line is entertainment, and I felt I was entertained. Blockbuster has a guarantee on these types of movies, and I did not ask for my money back. I thought the movie moved along nicely, was witty, and had plenty of action. Just don't try to correlate it back to the original, and you'll be fine. 6 out of 10
The Player (1992)
Not sure.
I was trying to figure out whether this movie was trying to be funny or suspenseful. Since it couldn't make up its mind, it did a mediocure job of being both.
I think this would have been more entertaining had it focused on the suspense, and had a more exciting ending.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
I didn't get it.
Probably the only funny part of this movie was Slim Pickins riding the bomb. Otherwise, I just didn't get it. You have to be a huge Peter Sellers fan to like this one, I guess. My sense is that if you like Mel Brook's flicks, you'll probably like this one.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Nothing short of a 10!
It seems as if every movie has something about it that is unbelievable, and this movie does have one part, but except for that it is a 10 all the way which is what I rated it. Excellent story line, acting, drama, humor, relationships... you name it. A 10 all the way.
Starship Troopers (1997)
All effects, no show!
I gave it a 4, but only because of the special effects. If not, it's more like a 2 or a 1. This movie was built for teens, and it doesn't make any apologies for it either! Sorry, but the story is weak, and when I view a Sci-Fi film, I like it to be believable which this is far from.
If you admire GORE, this move takes the cake. Enjoy the blood, guts, and holes in the heads!
Payback (1995)
Worth the Price of Admission!
Take this one home on your next visit to the Video Store. If you are offended by "hot sex", you may reconsider, but the drama is excellent, and unlike a lot of films, the ending does not drag on. It is exciting, and appropriately concise.
After seeing this, I'm looking out for more Joan Severance flicks!
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Breathtaking, and Deceptive... had me fooled
What a story line. Great blend of mystery, suspense, humor, and action. The ending will FLOOR you! A must see!
Stargate (1994)
Thought - provoking and entertaining... A true SCI-FI Classic.
Look beyond the special effects! I rented this movie and viewed it on a MONO television. The storyline was very intriguing. It definitely makes you wonder about it being a possible explanation for Egyptian "mythology" and the great Pyramids! I was thoroughly entertained, and felt a sense of patriotism at the end! I thought the story was believable, and kept me entertained from start to finish.
House of Games (1987)
Love "stings" in this movie!
In the spirit of the classic "The Sting", this movie hits where it truly hurts... in the heart! A prim, proper female psychiatrist, hungry for adventure, meets up with the dirtiest and rottenest of scoundrals. The vulnerable doctor falls for the career badman, and begs to be involved in his operation. While the movie moves kind of "slow", it's climax and ending are stunning! You'll especially enjoy how the doctor "forgives herself"!
