Kelly's Heroes (1970)
No burning bridges here
I have seen Kelly's Heroes many times. Recently I had the opportunity after a number of years to view it once again. It did not take long to remember why I have seen so many times. It is a very good movie.
From the opening right through to the end it is enjoyable to watch. I am not a great fan of Donald Sutherland, but I did like his character of Odd Ball. The movie has plenty of action and some great laughs. What more do you need?
Of course it has a great song in Burning Bridges to go with it.
Donovan's Reef (1963)
Fun
Not John Wayne's best movie, but one of my favourites. I love the locations, which I believe was Hawaii. It is just a fun movie to watch. The type of movie you don't have to think to hard about.
Men in Black (1997)
Confused
I am not sure what to make of this movie. Is it supposed to be a horror , a comedy, a serious drama or an action movie?
Tommy Lee Jones is a fine actor and his performance in MIB was okay, it's just that his character was very odd in deed. It is the first movie I have seen with Will Smith in and he did a fine performance. But as with Jones' character it was very odd.
The Perfect Daughter (1996)
Just about perfect marks
I just come across this movie on TV one morning and without realising it I got hooked. Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but a movie that holds your attention all the way through. I thought Tracey Gold was very good and believable in the lead role. It has been a long time since I saw a movie with Bess Armstrong in it and it was good to see her again.
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
Out of Control
No where as good as Speed, the original. Badly misses Dennis Hopper and Keanu Reeves. Willem Dafoe is a fine actor but is no Hopper. This is one movie theme that should have been left with the original.
Executive Decision (1996)
My Decision
A first class thriller!
This is the type of movie I like. It has action and it has suspense. I love action movies set on planes or trains. Unlike other recent movies along these lines this one was so much more believable.
I am a fan of Kurt Russell and I think he was perfect for the role of David Grant. I must say I was glad to see that Steven Seagal was killed off early. I don't believe the movie required his gung ho heroics.
If only they made more movies like this.
The Avengers (1998)
I was sick
The worst movie I have ever seen. How could Sean Connery allow homself to be part of this trash? Some television series have carried over nicely to movies, but this one was an absolute disaster.
Father Goose (1964)
Short but sweet
A delightful movie for all the family. I have many favourite Cary Grant movies and this is one of them.
Charade (1963)
Simply wonderful
How can anyone fault this wonderful movie. Grant and Hepburn are perfectly cast in their respective roles. The first time I watched this movie I actually did think that Cary was a bad guy. But really could he ever play the bad guy? The music from Henry Mancini was beautiful and really set off this wonderful movie.
North by Northwest (1959)
clasical
Grant and Hitchcock at there very best. I love the scenes with Grant being bombed by the crop-duster, to be followed up the exploding petrol tanker. They don't make movies like this today.
A House in the Hills (1993)
The Bare Facts
Just goes to prove it, if you can't beat them, join them. Helen Slater finally did it, appearing nude on film. An interesting movie made all the better by Slater's performance.
Courage Under Fire (1996)
Friendly Fire
Being a fan of Denzel Washington and a huge fan of Meg Ryan I was keen to see this movie. I was disappointed in watching it. Megs Ryans performance was out of the box. It was certainly different to her other roles. Denzel Washington, well what can I say other then his usual brilliant performance. A good movie made even better by the actors.
Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
Who wants to be a baby sitter
This movie breaks me up, it is so funny. Elisabeth Shue is great as the baby sitter. I wish I had a baby sitter like her. A fun movie for all the family.
The Longest Day (1962)
Never tire off
I have just finished watching this movie for the umpteenth time. It is a movie I never tire of. There will never be a movie of this magnitude ever made again. A brilliant performance by all.
To Sir, with Love (1967)
Brilliant
A brilliant movie. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen this classic. Sidney Poitier is fantastic as Mr Thackery and the lovely Judy Geeson is perfect as Pamela Dare. The song by Lulu is one of my favourites.
Field of Dreams (1989)
Dreams can come true
Oh such a wonderful movie. Dreams can come true, can't they. I can find no real fault with this movie. I believe this Kevin Costners best role to date. I love it
Witness (1985)
The best of all time
In my oppinion this is the best movie ever made. You can have your Gone With The Wind and any others. This film has everything, from violence to tender romance. The one scene that I clearly remember is when young Samuel is in the police station with John Book. Samual sees the photo of the murderer McFee. Their is no talking just facial expressions by Samual and Book. A great scene in a great movies.
Grease (1978)
Enjoyable
The best musical ever. A movie for all the family to watch and enjoy. John Travolta was perfect for the role of Danny and Olivia was just right for the sweet and innocent Sandy. The songs will live forever as will the movie.
The Searchers (1956)
The Duke at his best
I am a huge John Wayne fan, having seen many of his movies. The Searchers is easily his greatest movies and one of the greatest of all time. The role of Ethan Edwards was very demanding, but the Duke showed just how great of an actor he was. It should have won him an academy award.
To watch the movie is a wonderful experience, even after viewing many times like I have. I never tire of it.
