The Gilded Age: His Grace the Duke (2023)
Elderly love
I had to post my review as this episode made me scream and kick in the air with aunty's new found love. Their scenes were so subtle and sweet. The one where the rector first sends her the positive message was a total heart attack. That was so smooth that I almost think that the producers are watching some k-drama and showing that those times you didn't need much showy signs to declare your interest. Then the part at the church was epic. Seems our auntie was finally discovered. Good for her. Meanwhile the smarty dress Mrs Russell keeps coming with so many good surprises and ideas to fix her position as the strong and top lady of this new society.
After Everything (2023)
A BAD as it can get...
It's actually a soft porn piece trying to be a bit of a romantic one. In the end you find out that the main woman was also over reacting and couldn't handle that he was inspired in their love story. The longer part is the second female lead that is showing and really she is a great character as she was able to forgive the real sucker that the main lead is. Yup, she is probably the only decent character in this whole deep mess. Gladly I was sleepy and really didn't missed much when dossing off.
Oh, the one star is for the locations in Portugal, aside from the 2nd female, that is the only nice thing to watch.
Cheot Kiseuman Ilgopbeonjjae (2016)
7 chances - none happens
This almost seemed a joke, as it must be a bit complicated to put so many good looking opas all together. It's a short promotional from Lotto son don't expect too much. Each episode is very brief and leaves the heroine with a hanging kiss. The actors I follow had the roles they fit in (the perfect one, the scary boss and the traveler). The others were new to me, so it was a good chance to consider if I should watch a drama with them
I guess you can fantasize that in the end she remains with Min Hoo. A wild guess by the last words they exchange.
Since each episode goes so fast, the main character barely develops chemistry with the male leads, probably the best one seemed the student-teacher (at least to me).
Nothing serious, but a must for k-drama fans.
Yeokdoyojeong Gim Bokju (2016)
The cutest couple I've seen so far
I'm not a long time k-drama fan, so perhaps I have a small sample size to identify this couple as one of the best ones I've seen so far (this marks my 24th k-drama). I've been following Joo- Hyuk Nam since Cheese in the Trap and was very glad to see him at Scarlet Heart. Needless to say that I was programmed to watch this series.
Bok Joo is one of the female characters that I came to like right away, in HIGH contrast with the crazy Baek In-Ha which was a bit annoying. Sung-Kyung was a real and wonderful surprise in this simple character about a weight lifting athlete who is supposed to be "big" and not so pretty.
Jung Joon-Hyung is the swimmer who recognizes her (actually her first love) and becomes very close to her in a friendly way. What happens after is the best.
A beautiful couple relationship develops after Bok Joo has her a broken heart after her first crush. And this is where the bar for a boyfriend raises to a new level. Joon Hyung becomes the dream boyfriend any woman should aim for.
All their scenes together look so natural and yes, that look that Bok Joo receives will be always remembered. The rest is also naive and sweet. Such a massive change from the all violence/sex/boring US shows.
I've laughed like I haven't done in years of US/European shows. And probably I've re-discovered the tenderness a TV program can portray (with other values as friendship, family value, commitment to achieve a goal, overcoming obstacles) without the need to use all the clichés I've mentioned.
Watch it and relax, you'll come to treasure this couple.
El regalo de la Pachamama (2008)
A quick resume on Uyuni's tradition
I was pretty happy with this movie, despite it get slow some times. The photography is amazing and shows many places from the Southern-west area in Bolivia, near Uyuni Salt flat. The road of the salt, a tradition that has been dying faster in the last decade, is made by a father and his son Kunturi. It is the time to collect and exchange salt for other goods, like corn, quinoa, potato and others. Before, during and after the trip, you can witness, different rituals the quechuas have in this region, their respect for Pachamama, and how the modern western tradition is changing things in these small towns. The value and contact that this people had and have with their environment, is still underestimated.
American Visa (2005)
Sweet sights of La Paz
I honestly don't see many bolivian movies 'couse they have a bad marketing campaign. This one called my attention since I've heard many good comments about the photography. The script is easy going, no big complications a story like many others in this country. It's refreshing seeing Damian Bichir playing the role of a bolivian (he even got many of the expressions we use around here) and it's even more surprising watch Kate del Castillo talking in a "camba" accent, some times it's quite hard for her to keep it...but being a Mexican and now talking as a "camba"...good work.
It has a front critic to our political system and the way we are manipulated by the north country. I'm proud the sound, the image and the story of this film are much much better than the last bolivian movie I've seen "El Atraco".
Hirtenreise ins dritte Jahrtausend (2002)
A long long documentary
This documentary/film shows slowly the changes in the way of life of 2 shepherds remaining in Switzerland from 30. The first one has a family, which he has to leave 4 months during the winter and camp in the woods (first with a tent, then with a little house), taking care of a big group of sheep along Lucern area. When the winter is over he returns back home and the wife will take a part of them for the spring and summer. Another shepherd will take care of the other part of sheep in the mountains where he will live 1 month alone. After some years we will find a partner and share the work. These people is used to this style of life despite all the technology and comfortable life of our century. Very interesting though very long.
Y tu mamá también (2001)
Not the best of Cuaron!
Many people here says its best than Amores Perros, well for me that was kinda a lie. So far Amores Perros still shows the real thing and in a very real way. Y tu mama tambien, shows u also part of the real life here in mexico, but adds some things that disgrace the film. The work of "El Chivo" with the photography its good, not the best, couse they mix a lot of landscapes that don't match and that are not real. (desert in the Bajio area??? please! dont confuse people).
I will agree with the point that there is a lot of nudity, tons of it! but it was unnecessary, i can understand the point, very tasteless and disappointing. Rated R in Mexico, it was in my opinion wise, couse teenagers better see this movie with BOTH parents if possible. At the end i went out the movies feeling empty, this movie didn't entertain me, and not even left a message in my life. Lucky me i just pay 20 pesos! i probably would regret if it had been more.
Vampires (1998)
A Shame of vampires!
That was the worst mix of Interview with a Vampire and Dracula, ohh and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Was it about horror?... I think it was more about comedy 'couse of the silly plot... and that way of getting nasty whit church!! get a better story!
