Good if you cut out the extended Drama scenes
4 September 2023
This movie wasn't too bad, and it was kind of a cool premise for the movie and it was even funny at times. The CGI and post apocalyptical scenery was nice to look at. However, the movie had about 25 minutes of extended Drama scenes that cut have been shortened from 25 minutes of drama to like 2 minutes. So for example if a key character dies, there is no need to spend the next 5 minutes sobbing and remembering the character. My guess is they added in these scenes to take the movie up to a respectable length. So what I recommend is skipping ahead when you come to these obvious dramatic moments. That is what I did and the movie was much much better that way.

Meet the man behind the Rudy story
15 April 2020
This documentary on Dan "Rudy" Ruettiger is truly inspirational. The film follows Rudy some 40+ years after he defied all odds and played as a Notre Dame football player as a walk on. We see Rudy on campus talking to students and we get a feel for his gritty yet likable personality. We get to hear his unlikely story from his youth and how he defied all odds time and time again to achieve is ultimate dream and beyond. Highly recommended!

A fun adventure fantasy - sit back relax and let the movie take you away
2 April 2020
Some times I just want a movie to take me some place completely new, and this movie did it. You can just sit back and let the flick take you on a nice dreamy adventure. I love the fantasy worlds it takes you to and the special effects were well done. It is a movie that keeps moving and has lots of eye candy. The acting was so so, but it was all done in good spirit.

Two peas in a pod
30 December 2013
I like checking out independent films every once in awhile, so the CW fit the bill, especially because it was billed as a comedy. This was a Black and While film, and I usually take a star off because of that, but for some reason it worked in this case. For some reason the lower quality look gives the viewer a bit of distance they need to enjoy the film.

It resolves around a couple of adult siblings who take a trip together. The sister asks the brother to go with her to get the sisters belongings from an old boyfriends apartment. This trip involved a car ride requiring an overnight stay at a bible belt type motel which was a pretty funny scene. These two are the kind of kids that seemed like they grew up outside the popular crowd. However, I felt drawn to them and felt sorry for how the world revolved around them in cruel ways. They were kind of misfits, but they were not the type that would take crap from anybody. At least they were pretty kind to each other.

The end of the film is kind of a shocker, but it also caused me to think about the movie a lot the day after the viewing. I would recommend this film to those who are open minded. I also wanted to point out that the brother and sister looked and acted a lot like they really were siblings - great acting job. I think both of them are deserving of future success in the arts.

Excellent documentary of a man and his vision of the future
22 April 2011
Ray Kurzweil has known he wanted to be an inventor from the age of 5, and has now been at it for all those years. Along the way he realized that the timing of inventions was critical to their success, otherwise most inventions fail. Think e-readers 10 years ago, tablet PC's 7 years ago, and the Apple Newton – all bombs then, but now the timing is right. So he started analyzing technology trends and discovered the "law of accelerating returns"; in summary that technology grows in a predictable and exponential patterns and that amazing things our in our future. Ray has had amazing success with his publicly made predictions. For instance, in the book "The Age of Spirtual Machines", he made 147 predictions for the year 2009, of which 86% are correct or essentially correct. (Reference: "How My Predictions are Faring, Ray Kurzweil, Oct. 2010; http://c0068172.cdn2.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/predictions.pdf ) In other words when Ray Kurzweil speaks, people listen and you should too. I will admit, when I first heard is ideas of how man will evolve with technology, I was quite skeptical. But as I dug deeper into why he was saying this would happen, I began to see the trends are in his favor. Think about it; have you noticed that technology has been moving at a quickening pace lately?

The film follows Ray over several years, catching him on his lecture circuit, at his company, his home, and traveling about. Throughout the film Ray explains the "law of accelerating returns" and where it will lead to. Also Ray's critics and supporters give their opinions throughout. Ray himself seems to be an incredibly calm individual who rarely strays from his relaxed tone of speaking. Ray's trends predict that technology trends are crossing over into health-care and that if you can live for another 15 years you have the chance of living a very long time. Ray's predictions give us hope in a time when so much around us seems gloomy. The documentary is a fascinating look at Ray and his ideas, and I highly recommend it.

A not so bad Sci-Fi B movie
21 July 2010
This movie is kind of entertaining for the sci-fi fan. It has many references to other Sci-Fi creations, including Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Battle Star Galatcia and Dune. In fact the film must assume many of the users are familiar with many of these Stories as elements of each are used throughout. For instance Stargates are used both with no explanation of what for. The film is scattered with cheesy humor, that gives it much charm. The start of the movie features a 5+ minute prologue, which in part seems to be put in to extend the movie length. Don't see it to be blown away by special effects. See it when you are in the mood for some grade B Sci-fi.

Ray Manzarek of the Doors - Student Project
18 October 2003
Before Ray Manzarek made in big in the Rock group The Doors he was studying film at UCLA. This is one of his student films and it runs less than 20 minutes. I enjoyed it, especially for the party scene which shows how early psychedelia occurred in vence. Psychedelic posters, art and music are all around.

I love Disney movies I love Elephants

That's what this movie is all about. Unfortunately I felt the movie was just way to negative, and put me in a sad mood. The movie just kept pounding the message on how badly Elephants in the wild got it. Sure Elephants are hunted, and that is just wrong. But most elephants just don't have it that bad. To the movie makers, please lighten up. My vote 2 out of 10

A more realistic war movie
9 July 2000
Many war movies just following WWII were of the John Wayne tough guy type. However, Halls of Montezuma, is refreshing in that it looks in depth at the psychology of the soldier. Really at how men change when laying there lives on the line. The cinematography was also well done when you consider this movie was made half a century ago. You won't see the blood and guts as in a Saving Private Ryan, but the movie may make you think twice before signing up for active duty.

Truman (1995 TV Movie)
Well told biography of an ordinary man becoming president.
22 March 2000
Truman is a well acted and very catching film. The film managed to make politics an interesting story even though it is often boring to me. Looking at the first half hour you would have never thought a guy like this would be president. Worth catching.

One of the best sci fi's of the 50's
20 August 1999
This film was very enjoyable, and the way the story was told, gave it a more realistic feel than many sci fic films. The only 50's sci fic tilm that I think is better than this one is "the day the earth stood still"

A second viewing really made this movie shine for me
24 July 1999
When I fist saw this movie, I thought it was a little slow moving, and was surprised that it could win an oscar for best picture. However, a recent viewing proved me wrong, as the movies greatness really did shine. I guess I just didn't get it or was paying to much attention the first time around. One must especially listen to how Gene Hackman describes the ideal gunfighter, and see where it comes out in the movie.

A fine film, it keeps your attention throughout.

This film is one of those rare films which doesn't bore me for a second. It has lots of twists into mental illness, yet seems very believable. Great acting throughout.

It is worth seeing for the duel alone
29 May 1999
I was watching TV one morning when Barry Lyndon came on the set. Because I missed the opening credits I didn't even know that Stanley had anything to do with this picture. In fact I though this picture was made in the mid 90's due to its spectacular photography. I was sucked into the movie and was captured by its very moment. I must say though, that the best scene in the whole movie is the duel between Barry and his stepson. I heard it took 42 days to edit this scene alone, and I must say it is worth it. The music and direction and fantastic. I was surprised to learn that Stanley directed this movie, since it was in such contrast to A Clockwork Orange.

So I say see it, as it is pure art as a motion picture.

This was one of the films that really sucked me in and gave me a look at what life was like growing up black in the early part of the century. The setting for the film was splendid.

See it
6 May 1999
I'm not a particularly religious person, but this movie is about a lot more than that. The film is based on a book writen by the preacher's son. The film is a biography of the Preacher's years as a preacher. Seeing the sacrifices the preacher makes really touched me, since it seems so real and believable. The movie has a quite a few twists, and a few surprises too.

Very good
7 January 1999
A very good movie, especially for a made for cable movie. The funny thing is I saw this movie by accident. I read the summary of the movie in the T.V. guide, but wasn't interested in it. Anyway I was watching the tube when the movie suddenly came on.

I immediately was hooked, and thought the plot was well done.

A great movie that captures the Woodstock event
25 October 1998
This Woodstock movie is labeled as a docuemtary and I love it. I love it when they interview the people in this movie since it's a trip listening to them. Plus they show live performances of some the best musicians on earth. After watching this movie you will get a good feel for what it was like being there yourself.

Great special effects make it worth seeing
23 September 1998
I didn't have great expectations about Spawn before I saw this movie. I thought it was going to be like one of those ninja turtle movies or something. However, I was immediately drawn into the story and the special effects which dominate this movie. The story has kind of a surreal man vs. hell feeling to it, which was pretty well done, although probably not a movie mom would enjoy to much.

Excellent survival story
23 September 1998
I very much enjoyed this film, and was on the edge of my seat throughout much of it. The views of Alaska are breathtaking. Hopkins plays his part perfectly. However, I can see that only certain types of people would enjoy this film. People who enjoy survival/adventure/thriller type stuff.

But what really impressed me about this movie was how they survived. Hopkins character knowing many survival tactics(in theory only) gave this movie a spark that really touched me. I have read a fair number of survival books, and Hopkins character knew that those who are ignorant, full of panic, and in self-pity often die, while those that can face the situation head on and think clearly often pull through.
