I'm Alan Partridge (1997)
Disappointing
Considering the absolute comic genius that was the first I'm Alan Partridge series, this is a poor relation in comparison. Whilst Partridge remains as funny as ever the series itself is poor. The writing is disjointed with no particular story to it and the whole series seems rushed and lacks the comic timing of the other series. Having said that it is still damn funny and it's much better to have flawed genius than no genius at all.
24 Hour Party People (2002)
Superb gritty film
Ignore the gibberish that the American spoke earlier in the reviews. This film has NOTHING to do with raves. It mentions them once, so if it's that offensive don't watch that 20 second clip you prat! As for awful British accents? Everyone has an accent, just because they differ to yours doesn't mean they aren't as valid or for that matter any less entertaining. I do wish you'd vet such reviews in the same way as you'll cut mine for swearing...
Onto the film. I was going to complain about how much Coogan is playing the Alan Partridge character when I read that he actually based Partridge on Wilson in the first place. That gives the film 9/10 for me. Brilliant. Watched it twice and it gets better each time. Great humour in it too, unless you're a Brit hating yank!
Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000)
Fantastic film
This is one heck of a funny film. Ignore the negative comments from others. If you like Kevin and Perry in the first place you WILL love this. It doesn't drag out a joke too far as some would have you believe. In fact the characters work wonderfully in this film and it's one laugh after another. Rhys Ifans is cast perfectly as "Eyeball" Paul and he plays a major part in the films success. Kevin's parents are given a bigger part than expected too and their role in the film is one of the funniest aspects of it. Nothing more to add except it's not that long a film and this makes it easier for repeat viewings. It gets funnier each time. So ignore the miserable people who have commented about it and treat yourself to a damn good laugh!
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
Beg, borrow or steal this epic
Having been a fan of the Tarantino gangster films of recent years it came as a massive surprise that they have all been bettered by this amazing film. The characters are all superbly cast and the sepia camera effect adds to the gritty realism of the story. But this is no serious drama, oh no. It's so damn funny at times that you don't know whether to wince at the violence or to split your sides laughing. I opt for the latter, but then I have watched it many times and the violent bits don't surprise me any more. However the funny bits just get funnier with each viewing.
I.D. (1995)
A great film, made all the better by the fact that I'm in it!
No seriously, I am in it. I was one of many extras at Bradford City football ground for the filming of many of the crowd scenes for this film. Despite my particularly good performance I am afraid to say I was overshadowed by the other characters in the film; namely Reece Dinsdale, Warren Clarke et al. A superbly realistic film showing just how mindless and moronic football hooliganism was during the 80's.
Cool Runnings (1993)
A brilliant film
A superb atmosphere as it's set in the paradise of Jamaica as the four bob-sledders prepare for the winter Olympics. This is such a funny yet at times sad film as the Jamaican's battle against all the odds to become equals or Olympians. I watch this fairly often and I keep willing them to make it to the finish line but obviously this never happens. Great stuff!
