Super Zombies with the taste for small amounts of fake blood
27 March 2006
So you got these super zombies. When I mean super, I mean stronger than and just as smart as your regular human. They can even use a sub machine gun (tech 9mm I believe) and aim accurately by compensating for the recoil. They can also fly large cargo planes. This seems to put them in the category of vampires, as any true zombie fan would tell you. But that is another discussion.

The makeup is really bad. Its basically people with a few inches of dirt piled on their face. The continual close-ups are so repetitive and long that it will drive you nuts. The main character is a complete jerk that has the same emotions before and after zombies start to takeover the city.

Well that being said, I loved it. The dubbing was hilarious. The scenes of violence were so terrible, by the way people acted, that you just had to laugh. The twist at the end was so unpredictable and brainless, it was totally amusing.

So basically if you are wanting a really bad B-Grade movie, your going to get it. It should keep you entertained with good company.

The movie does the point well. A great remake.
11 March 2006
Its a horror movie, done very well. A remake of the classic 70's horror, it contains all the violence and scares that was in the original and more.

It's not nice to see Hollywood trying to remake the classics, but this is an improvement over other recent attempts. Starts off slow, but does a good job in setting up intense moments that are not forgetful. It also contains those cheesy lines and the classic fake scares. But this makes a horror movies great. It even contains great splatter scenes and various images that are original.

Alexandre Aja will be a star director for future movies. He also did great with his previous film Haute tension.

Brian Paulin's best work so far
22 December 2004
The most particular genre of horror that has cult followers is probably the zombie movie. Mr. Paulin has added to this community with this very graphic and spooky film.

The special make up effects on the zombies, and the victims were just done very well for the budget. The story is written well and (practically) never veers off the aspects of Italian horror films such as cannibals and zombies. One of the most exciting features in the movie, to me, is the level of gore. Well, and also the nudity.

The sleeve artwork has the feel of the film. There are some silly scenes, but it just makes the movie fun, and helps keep the pace.

Excellent action for the Zombie fan.
25 March 2004
I think the Original Dawn of the Dead (1979) is the best horror movie ever, when I heard of this movie coming out, I was scared they might damage the original. However, I was excited that another Zombie flick was coming out and I threw away all expectations before seeing the film. This new version is superb.

It contains a lot of violence, and is probably one of the scariest movies ever made. I would not compare this to the original because it is taken from a different point of view. Any real Zombie fan must take this into consideration or your will ruin a great movie. These Zombies are more vicious, faster, and smarter.

This movie is extremely fast paced, which makes character development weak, but that is not why you would want to see this movie at the theaters. The acting is performed well with the brief time each character has to present themselves. Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley do an excellent job also with their allotted time.

The Soundtrack is superlative for this movie. The editing was good with a large amount of assemble edits that work really well through out the movie.

Genre True
17 October 2003
True to the horror arena. I feel bad that Gunner was not in this film, but the script and suspense was great. There were many scenes that kept you on your seat, and the camera work was awesome. Deal with the Hollywood, and enjoy the horror. Eight out of Ten.

Action packed pirates doing pirate things.
11 July 2003
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the best Pirate movies ever. There is a great balance of storyline and action to make this film a top Disney production. It was full of surprises that would entertain anyone at any age. Johnny Depps' role was performed almost flawlessly, and the visual effects were done remarkably.

Due to the critic's ratings; `Pirates of the Caribbean' is also a prime example on how highly paid movie critics do not belong in our society.

Worst Movie Ever! Worth a laugh.
23 January 2003
Everything is terrible about this movie. The robot is just some guy in a cheap police outfit. He has the ability to see in the past somehow with a "replay" mode. Script, acting, lighting, effects, ..... I mean everything is horrendous. However its a good movie for a laugh.

Disturbing, Funny
12 October 2002
I saw the edited film from Blockbuster and liked it. However, the Criterion DVD disturbed me. The edited version really make the movie better. I personally think it just went to far at its initial release.

The removed scenes, that are on the DVD, contain a brutal rape and a little kid getting killed.

It has a very unique style. You hate the characters through the entire show, but you keep watching. The satire behind it is very good.

Fast forward through the brutal scenes, take a shower afterwards.

Terrible story line, about a terrible subject.
28 September 2002
This movie has real drug abuse and bad acting scenes. May be worth showing your suburban kids if they know nothing about heroin abuse. It is a scary and depressing film, and can get very boring.

The VHS edition contains an interview with Lech Kowalski (the director) by Lloyd Kaufman (Troma Studios President). It's on a street corner like he's catching her on the way to the store. It's a very poor addition to this garbage. Gee, I wonder if I should ge the DVD for more exciting additions to this trash.

Kaufman said it was better then "Train Spotting". I would definitely suggests "Train Spotting" rather than this film.

It is funny for the first few minutes, then just monotonous.
24 June 2002
I saw this at the Nantucket film Festival (2002)

Its tries to state the point, that the result of graffiti removal by state workers is subconscious art. I admit that I am not highly knowledgeable in art; however being the son of a modern artist I say that this is spurious.

The audience laughed through this film, as did I. If the film was intended as a comedical insight, the joke got old very fast. Be prepared to look at many images of removed graffiti for 16 minutes.

There was one scene with a woman on a bike riding through town. I started to get a feel of what the director was saying, but then the woman suddenly changed directions, leaving me with the impression that these where just random scenes slapped together.

Some answers of why the Columbine school shooting took place.
24 June 2002
I saw this film at the Nantucket film festival (2002) with the writer, director and cast member Thomas Cavanagh. It revolves around the school play `Bang Bang You're Dead', and the troubled youth Trevor who is on the brink of a collapse.

The movie was paced fairly well, and the acting was good. Although, I found the plot to go off track for a while, I was emotionally thrilled throughout the film. Thomas Cavanagh put on a great performance as an educator. Ben Foster, as Trevor, was a good cast for the part. Both performances were well executed.

It's a very good movie. You don't know what will happen next. It's a good movie to show your kid if he is having social problems in school. It is also a big promotion for the `Bang Bang You're Dead' play.

An Original Art Film
24 May 2001
"Meshes of the Afternoon" is based on a woman that sees violence as a possible solution to solving life's problems. When faced with her problems, she solves it with violence, which in turn hurts herself, and the one she loves. She finds out that her problems were only created by herself.

Well, thats how I perceive it. It is a must see movie for any film professional. You see images and situations that are in a lot of movies today.

Begotten (1989)

Maya Deren would be proud
17 May 2001
Begotten is black and white distorted images. It looks like it could have come from the nineteenth century. However, the sound is crystal clear, minus the sync and the addition of calm nature sounds.

This movie was very critical of the struggles of life. It shows a single mother and child in a violent world that thrives on the innocent. The mother is very oblivious to her surroundings. This leads to lots of torture, pain, and death. You may watch it many times and see different symbolisms, plot devices, and basically "what does it mean?".

If you appreciate art in movies then you will love it. Otherwise, don't bother.

Great spoof of dead movies
3 April 2001
A very fun loving popcorn B-Movie. The makeup and effects were used very well. The silly plot and bad acting make it very funny.

The dead in this film are very powerful physically. This makes the movie have some good horror.

I suggest you see it if you like zombies. Parts II and III were not worth it.

Santa Sangre (1989)
10/10
Wonderful Movie
6 October 2000
The eerie atmosphere, and alien characters to every day life, draws those who are artistic and learners. The character development and strange situations will keep you glued to the set.

Santa Sangre means `Blood of the Saint'. The saint is a young virgin that a young Fenix sees his Mom worshiping in a strange cult like church. It is explained that this saint was an abused girl that got her arms cut off. This all takes place in a circus, with clowns as stand-ins and musicians playing music wherever Fenix goes. There is a very surrealistic scene when the Circus elephant dies of natural causes. This scene is very spectacular in how it was presented.

Later, Fenix sees his mom get her arms cut off by his father. This of course twists his mind into thinking of his Mom as a saint, but she is a very spiteful woman. This puts him in terrible situations, and he then cannot distinguish between unnecessary death and natural death. They make money when he is older by being his Moms arms during performances.

At any point in the movie, you really cannot tell what is real and what are insane delusions. It will not be reveled until the last few minutes of the film, which will surprise you.

Not too bloody if you get the blockbuster version. You can watch this, or watch some guy hurting himself while falling down funniest home videos, so I guess it's a matter of taste.

I like seeing GG Allin from this distance
22 September 2000
This documentary by Todd Phillips (very talented director), shows a period (and final chapter) of GG Allins career.

I enjoyed watching this movie due to the interesting life GG Allin had. It was entertaining, and comfortable, to see his antics from this distance of my living room and him on TV. I was happy to purchase the movie for its entertainment value.

Many scenes are of himself making a fool out of himself, that is hilarious and revolting. His music is not good, and he does not portray a positive role model in any extent, but this movie has a good flow to it.

He is an offensive person in this movie, and its all real. Although, I have heard he had a nice side, it can only believe what I see.

RIP GG, I would of liked to see you in a sequel.

Trash cinema at its best
22 September 2000
It is what you will expect. Cannibals, gore, and horror. If you see this movie and got offended or upset, then you must of miss read the title.

Not as nasty as the counterpart "Cannibal Holocaust" but it does pack a punch of brutal scenes. Some animal cruelty and terrible makeup effects.

The Grindhouse DVD actually has allot of extra features with an easter egg on it (hidden clip of a LA screening). Kinda strange, but I found the movie very entertaining.

The commentary on the DVD consists of the star (Giovanni Lombardo Radice) and the Director (Umberto Lenzi) saying how terrible the film is. I love negative DVD commentaries, as it depicts how silly the movie really is.

The Best Sex Pistols Documentary
21 September 2000
The Filth and the Fury is, by far, the best documentary you will ever see on the Sex Pistols. There is a lot of old footage you might have seen before in other films, but there is also some added footage and some good interviews of the members speaking of their exploits.

The Grundy interview is broken down very well while being explained. They also do refer to themselves briefly on the tradition of anarchy and the Gorgon riots. There is also a few cuts from `who killed Bambi', while explaining how all their funds was invested in this failed movie that turned into a `the Great Rock and Roll Swindle.'

If you're not a Sex Pistol fan, you will still find this intriguing on how the evolution on what Punk rock was, and how pertinent the Sex Pistol experience was.

This is also a bipartisan view of Malcolm McLaren. Which is very significant, due to his involvement in other films, which has casted him as the leader of these group of teenagers.

Julien Temple, the great director he is, finally tells the true story.

Excellent Drama
21 September 2000
One of the best Drama's ever.

A great performance by Gary Oldman. There are interesting scenes that depict the times, but do not take this as fact.

The DVD version has excellent footage from DOA, and a great commentary by Julien Temple saying how much the film is unrealistic. Really worth seeing if you have an interest in Sid Vicious, but do not take it as fact.

One of the Best Horror Films Ever
3 September 2000
I will never forget this as the suspense and the sheer horror makes this a great film.

The plot is about researchers in Antarctica that discover a Swedish base that was burned to the ground. They obtain a friendly dog that turns out to be their worst nightmare.

I enjoy John Carpenters direction. He makes you feel very hopeless in the situation, and the characters have some decent development. The level of gore is high, with spectacular effects. I consider it the best of Carpenters work.

Get this movie if you want to scare your girlfriend, and yourself.
