Not what you'd think.
2 November 2004
I thought this might be a massive polemic against Michael Moore and liberal ideology, but it's not. It certainly does some analysis of Moore's film-making techniques, focusing more on the negative, but many people who disagree with his style as a documentarian actually agree with his political positions. Michael Wilson even gets caught using some of the same techniques as Moore and admits that it's easy to cross the line of honesty. More than just showing the bad side of Moore, Wilson shows the good side of America.

Michael Moore Hates America is engaging, entertaining, and funny. Hopefully it will see wider release. And hopefully people will be able to get past the title and bring themselves to see it.

Miscast.
31 October 2001
As I watched this movie, I kept thinking to myself, "This should be funnier." Not as in, "Someone should have made this a funnier film," but more like, "The building blocks of humor are here, why isn't it funny?" At times, I actually found it humorous, but something just didn't click. I think the biggest flaw was Chris Klein as Gilly. It felt like the role was written for someone else (Jim Carrey? It IS the Farrelly brothers). Klein was great with his role in Election, but he just doesn't feel right in this character. Better casting alone wouldn't have made it a great movie, but it certainly would have helped.

Uneven, but stick it out.

I am a HUGE Norm Macdonald fan, and I expected more out of this film, but it was still good. After the first 30 minutes or so, I had hardly laughed at anything. It wasn't terrible, just not very funny. After that, it really picked up. There were times when I just didn't find anything to laugh at, but they alternated with times when I just couldn't stop laughing. It's not Norm's best, but even when he's off his mark, he's still funnier than most other comedians.

Major word of advice: Don't leave early!!! If you're planning on missing something, arrive late.

The worst movie I have ever seen!
23 March 1999
I only paid $1.00 to see this movie, and I still felt ripped off. I stuck around, assuming it would get better, or at least hoping I could laugh at it's badness, but neither happened. It was not cheesy enough to laugh at, and it was so terrible I actually experienced physical pain while watching it. The talents of Del Toro and Walken were completely wasted in this lame excuse for entertainment.

One of the great movies of all time.

This is, without a doubt, the greatest adaptation of a Shakespeare play (Hamlet) ever put on the big screen!
