Rumor Has It... (2005)
A lighthearted comedy with a few good laughs
I just do not think that the several harsh comments here are fair...I mean, what did you expect from this movie? I think some people just took this movie more seriously than they should have, and expected more from it, just because it sounded like a follow-up to the Hollywood classic "The Graduate"? Well, don't expect much....and you will have fun!!! You do not have to take this movie seriously, it is just a lighthearted movie (comedy/drama) with a few good laughs(e.g. grandma Katherine's toast to the newlyweds, the family phone call with Sarah, grandma, sister, father involved)
"Rumor Has It" is not the movie of the year....Or it is not a great movie, but it is definitely watchable, and it is really fun at times. I agree that that the storyline is so predictable, but most of the movies in Hollywood are predictable one way or the other, so what is the big deal? I do not think Jennifer Aniston is a very good actress, yet she is okay in this movie; Kevin Costner and Shirley McLaine are really good---I think Kevin Costner is making a good comeback, he was even better in the Upside of Anger earlier this year--- and their confrontation in front of the house is fun!
Dragonfly (2002)
Nice movie, sweet ending
***SLIGHT SPOILER*** I really do not get why people do not like Kevin Costner as an actor. Yeah, he has not done very well at box office for some years now, but, come on, we all know what kind of movies do good at box office. If you are for action movies, I can understand you may not like the movie, yes it is a slow movie, but otherwise, I believe that Kevin delivers perfect as Dr. Joe Darrow. I have always liked the vulnerable characters that he has played. I could feel Joe's love for Emily, and his pain after he lost her all along the movie. We can talk about if the oncology ward patients were good actors, but Kevin did his best. Shadyac could have made use of Kathy Bates and Linda Hunt more to develop the story though. And, if I were Shadyac, I would not try to market the movie as a "thriller." This is a "Field of Dreams" meeting "Message in a Bottle" movie. It is supernatural and romantic! And I enjoyed it! The ending was not a "Oh my God!" ending, I agree, but it was a "Oh that is sweet" ending.
For Love of the Game (1999)
loved every minute!
Kevin Costner is fantastic as the aging, but still charming Tigers pitcher Billy Chapel. I believe he is acting even better when he plays guys that feel somehow "hurt", like Billy Chappel, Crash Davis(Bull Durham) or Garret Blake(Message in a bottle). He is not like some actor playing a "hurt" guy, but he can feel the pain as if it is real. One can see the pain, or happiness, or love in Costner's eyes. And, this is real acting! And the movie is like two movies, for the price of one, baseball game and love story going together, I liked it too much.
The 13th Warrior (1999)
awful, awful movie!
13th warrior has been a great disappointment for me. Having seen Banderas in Zorro, I thought he would have roles in better movies now. But, no! 13th Warrior could not hit the spot for me. The story was not interesting, and the ending was awful. They were like "O.K. it is over" and that was it. Maybe my expectations were high, I do not know, but I am really sad that I paid 7 bucks to see this movie.
