Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Silly Bore
I have just finished viewing the movie. It is an over-rated and silly bore. The acting is terrible and the horror is unconvincing. Killing a few animals is the only realistic parts and even this is less offensive than looking at slaughter house films. Recent films such as "Boogyman" and "Saw II" are more shocking. Mayube I have have seen too many horror films ad am getting insensitive to the gore.
I still think the best horror film are the original "Night of the Living Dead" and "Last House on the Left." These older films were shocking because they were a new departure from horror films up until the 1970s.
My recommendation is that I hope no one waste their money and actually buys the DVD like I did!!! I give the movie five points our of 10.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The less you know the more you will enjoy this movie.
I think this is a very cleaver and creative movie for a thirty-five thousand dollar budget. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read so much about it before seeing it. It didn't live up to the expectations generated by the reviews. "Night of the Living Dead" is still my all time favorite low budget movie.
8MM (1999)
8mm is postmodern nonsense
Any movie with a plot about a wealthy pervert paying one million dollars to pornographers to produce a 1992 snuff movie with a jumpy and grainy hand held 8mm movie camera should be an early warning that this film must be as defective as the cameraman (with obvious advanced Parkinson's disease) who operated the camera while the victim was being killed. The movie had a horror comic book style with its background of Gotham City slums, retro-technology and cartoonish characters. The bad guys have adopted sleeze as a total life style, i.e., they not only have sleezy jobs, they wear sleezy clothes, decorate their offices with junk store discounts, and prefer to live in urban slums. Tom Welles (Nicholas Cage) is a private eye who is able to learn the identity of the snuff film victim with a lot of improbable good luck. He plods through the film with the energy of someone with low blood pressure! The film is neither disturbing or exciting. It is boring and stupid!
Meet Joe Black (1998)
Meeting Joe Boring
The only thing I got out of this movie was a pain in the butt after watching it for 3 hours. I've liked most of Brad Pitt's movies, but this one was a real dud. Brad is suppose to be Death, but he seems more like an idiot savant - a cross between the characters in movies such as "Being There", "The Rainman" and "Charley", etc. Maybe the reason people in real life are able to cheat death frequently is because death is semi-retarded! I cannot recommend this movie to anyone unless, of course, they are already dead and don't get bored easily.
