Fear of a Black Hat (1993)
Rusty's Brilliant Homage to Spinal Tap
. . . is just as good as the original. Very nearly achieves greatness because of Cundieff's remarkable ear for music and dialogue. Skewers the self-important swagger of the hip-hop poseurs. The group "Niggaz with Hats" (NWH) are every rap group you ever heard and utterly self-parodic. Wardrobe is unbelievable. Buy the OOP soundtrack if you can.
Prison Heat (1993)
Lots of T & A in this Turkish prison romp
Plenty of T & A, shower scenes, and full breasts straining against flimsy cotton blouses in this beyond-belief exploitation film. Four gorgeous American babes are wrongly jailed in a Turkish prison, where they face the expected sexual threats from cruel jailers, lesbo-inmates, and the inevitable warden-rapist. Perhaps the best reason to see this film is for the wardrobe: all four of the curvaceous cuties wiggle around the prison in Daisy Mae Dogpatch-style butt-twitcher cutoffs and oh-so-tight, braless tops.
If you really have 90 minutes with nothing else to do, you might watch this Israeli curiosity; be warned, however, that the reason for its existence will mystify you.
Showgirls (1995)
The greatest bad movie ever made
This film puts all other so-called "bad" movies to shame. While watching this movie, I prayed it would never end. With each succeeding scene so much more unspeakably awful than the last, I wondered during every fade, "What could they POSSIBLY do to top this?" And every time, another credulity-straining, intelligence-insulting, improbably-scripted-and-acted scene would blessedly follow. Verhoeven, the director of such diversions as "RoboCop" and "Basic Instinct," has achieved what few filmmakers have ever done. He has succeeded in getting from EVERYONE in his cast, a perfect, deadpan recitation of the most mind-numbingly stupid screenplay ever written. This film is beyond camp. It is like observing a real-life cult brain-warping at work, the pinnacle of collective mistaken belief: could everyone involved with this film really have thought a good movie would result?
The serious filmgoer must experience "Showgirls."
