Fun First Installment in the Series of 6
4 April 2013
I thought this little gem was kind of entertaining. It's not telling you what else happened at Crystal Lake. It's more of a What If? tale. And yes, the segments are kind of cliché, but they are definitely in the spirit of Friday the 13th. For those of you who thought it was pointless, guess what? You only watched 7 of about 40 minutes! This is almost an anthology tale where The Killer is relentless in chasing The Lone Survivor. And I've got to say, I've watched lots of fan-made films before, but this one actually had a budget and high production values. The camera alone was probably worth way more than what most fan-made films can contribute. Not to mention believable effects. Some of them were even better than the smeared-on blood effects from the actual sequels. I suggest you watch all 6 chapters in this little saga to get any fulfillment, though. Just watching 1 chapter is like picking up a film cell and trying to suss out the plot.

Not really for Children
27 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
At least not the ones under 10 or 12, I should think. Bob Zemeckis is an outstanding director. I have loved everything he's directed. But this one had me scratching and I even jumped some. I know Zemeckis wanted to remain faithful to the story, which is always a good thing, but he forgot who his demographic target was.

This is a Disney movie for children, and most are garnered for the 8-and-under market. There's some harsh language. It shows two starving children, then the girl transforms into a full-grown woman and dances promiscuously around Scrooge. And it's quite scary at times. At 36, it made me jump. Some 5-year-olds will pee all over themselves.

And the language! They speak Victorian English straight out of the book. Most Americans have never even heard of some of the words they used! I found myself relying on the captions quite a bit to understand the dialog. And the tones of the ghosts were sometimes hard to make out. The Ghost of Christmas Past whispers all the time and the Ghost of Christmas Present has a Scottish accent.

There are a few fun scenes created and garnered directly for children, but I wouldn't risk it. Bottom line, if you want your children to learn about Ebenezer Scrooge's folly and redemption, watch Mickey's Christmas Carol or A Muppet Christmas Carol. Or, if you're an adult like me and want to have fun, watch Bill Murray in Scrooged.

Camp Nowhere (1994)
Great movie, Jessica Alba's first role
9 July 2002
This is a fantastic movie. I first saw it at 20 years old and remembered all the fun things I did as a teenager. This movie makes you want to reclaim your lost youth. Why couldn't they have cool stuff like that when I was their age?

After Dark Angel was canceled by Fox, I checked this web site to see what else Jessica Alba had starred in. I was surprised to find out that this was Jessica's first movie. Way cool! She has only one or two lines, but she does pop up plenty of times and adds plenty of atmosphere to the film.

A good one to watch with the family, but make sure that your kids don't get any ideas. ;)

Very cool for kids.
16 March 2002
I saw this when I was about 3 years old. This was the only way my mother could get me to pick up my toys. We'd do the whole song and dance every couple of hours. So very cool that they can use cartoons to send positive messages, like "Be neat and clean up after yourself." If you can, find a copy for yourself.

Worst slasher flick I've ever seen.
7 January 2002
This has to be the worse C movie I've ever seen. It looks and sounds like someone filmed it with their home camcorder. A couple of the death scenes are tolerable but the acting ruins it. Lots of continuity problems. I paid $1.50 to rent, got ripped off. Avoid at all costs.

The best film adaptation. Edgar would be proud!
11 August 2001
I've read Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan novels and I've seen many film and TV adaptations. This is by far one of the best versions out there, surpassed only by Disney's Tarzan (1999). I don't see why so many people are against this movie. Didn't you read the book? This movie is about 85% true to the plot and outline of the book. By far, closer than anything Johnny Weissmuller or Miles O'Keeffe could have done. Do yourself a favor: rent it and judge for yourself.

Unbreakable (2000)
What a waste.
30 June 2001
I was expecting a great suspenseful movie that would keep me glued to my television. It barely piqued my interest. I liked the comic book movie premise, but almost nothing happens. Sure, Bruce can act, but he needed to do a little more than just show me a range of emotions. There was so much hype leading up to this movie's release, "this year's best supernatural thriller." There's not much supernatural in there. He didn't really do any super hero-type stuff. It all led up to a big disappointment. Don't waste your time or money on this movie.

Labyrinth (1986)
Wonderful blend of visual magic and artsitic story-telling!
17 November 1998
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie proves that you can never be too old to love a good fairy tale. Jim Henson uses his talents to bring visual magic to the screen as he and his son, Brian Henson, deliver an age-old legend to a new audience. David Bowie's role as the Jared, the Goblin King , reminds people that they should be careful what they ask for... you just might get it.
