Blue City (1986)
What was the point?
I knew nothing beforehand about this film. I only watched it because Ally Sheedy was in the cast. This was one of the poorest films I have seen in a long time. In my opinion, the only actor who really put anything into his part was Paul Winfield. I like Ms. Sheedy no matter what film she's in, ever since I first saw her in War Games. Judd Nelson was inappropriate as the hero. The plot became more preposterous as the film went on, so that by the end nothing that happens surprises the viewer. The actions which the hero did were totally over the top, and he got away with all of them!! All in all, a film to avoid.
The Demolitionist (1995)
Overall, not a bad film but not that good either....
Overall, not a bad film but not that good either. Shades of Robocop here, a bit of Borg technology there, but I thought it failed to gel into an enjoyable whole. Richard Grieco was nasty, but not nasty enough. The mayor was a joke. The acting on the whole was below par. The heroine wiped out the bad guys too easily (doesn't she ever reload?). She should have at least been stabbed or shot a few times to show her super quick healing powers in action. No chance of that though with her armour. I guess given a low budget they didn't do too badly, but the outcome was merely average. Watch out for the grisly ending!
Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
An "average" film
I have just seen the preview showing of Insurrection, and I thought it was merely average. I am a fan of gigantic space battles, of which there were not enough in the film. The plot was also a bit light. Outer space special effects were good, though not amazing, but the effects on the planet I felt were quite poor. This film was definitely not better than First Contact, a film which I thought was so "worth it" that I have already bought the DVD, even though I do not own a player as yet!!! I sensed the audience were not too impressed either. They didn't laugh at many of the jokes and there wasn't any cheering or applause (things which happened a few times during First Contact). Overall, I would say merely an average Star Trek film, and one that I would not pay to see a second time.
