The Haunting (1999)
Why? Why!!!
Maybe it was my fault. I watched the original just before seeing this movie. It's nothing like the original. The original is actually kinda scary. This movie....isn't. The closest it got was an occasional startling moment or two. Those were just annoying. This movie is Hollywood crap, Good vs. Evil. The computer graphics look neat but give to much away. My question is why did they even bother. Stay home and watch the original. You'll thank me.
The Haunting (1963)
Great movie
I really enjoyed this movie, it's everything I want from a Ghost story. The cool part was that you can either watch it purely as a ghost story or, more interestingly, as the story of a woman who is going insane. Much better than the new one.
Palmetto (1998)
When a movie doesn't know it's a comedy...
This movie becomes a lot more watchable when you realize how much it has in common with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. First of all, Elizabeth Shue is doing her best Jessica Rabbit impersonation. I truly expected her to say "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way." I don't want to give anything away, but there is even "dip" in it that dissolves humans rather than cartoons. It doesn't have a toon town, and there is a bit more sex in this movie, but...well its a reason to see the movie if its the only thing available.
Buffalo '66 (1998)
It's a happy movie
I was so incredibly annoyed with the main character for the entire movie. Then Suddenly something changes. And that's the end of the movie. It is so very amazing that a movies ending can be so simple and so powerful. I was very happy with it.
Solar Crisis (1990)
ick
I saw this movie a long time ago... luckily it was for free. I have to be one of the maybe twenty people who saw this movie in the theater. I don't remember a whole bunch of it, but I do remember I was incredibly bored, the plot made no sense and when I came out of the theater the only thing I could say was at least now I know what the worst movie I ever saw was. I just was incredibly bothered by one thing: if they can make the temperature as they approach the sun low enough for humans to survive, why can't they turn it down to a comfortable temperature instead of being all hot and sweaty? How stupid do they think we are?
The Opposite of Sex (1998)
I liked it to pieces
OKay, so Lyle Lovett is not the greatest actor in the world. Maybe it's just me, I just enjoy seeing him in things. He has that funny hair, he's been everywhere, and he is just plain cool. Yes, I was one of those people that said he was too good for Julia Roberts (or at least agreed when they said that on the radio.) Anyway, He does give a somewhat stiff performance in this character, but it doesn't hurt this movie much at all because it is so well acted and written. His character remains intact, you can figure out what's going on without the huge emotions you might get from other actors. Anyway, this movie was great, especially for anyone who is tired of seeing characters that are just plain evil. These evil people depicted in other movies don't exsist outside of Hollywood. On the other hand, this movie was great because no one is evil, they all have things that happened to them and stuff that shaped who they are. It's really cool that this movie could pull that off. I have much much more I could say, but it would just take too long. I liked it a lot, you should see it.
