Bent (1997)
If you didn't like it, you shouldn't be watching movies like this
This movie was not a high budget movie, and you can tell. But what makes a movie? Not its high budget. The story and the characters make a movie, and this one had it. How brave of a group to go into this very untouched piece of history and show it so elegantly. While some of the scenes may have seemed a bit cheesy, or stagey as someone said earlier, you need to understand the position these people where in. While making love without touching may seem odd, or weird, that is all they had. That was all the human contact they had. If you can't see that you shouldn't be watching movies like this one.
Out of the Past (1998)
Imaginative and very Informative
This movie takes a very non-bias view into the lives of some Utah (where I am from and lived through this) citizens who stood in the face of bigotry and yelled in their ears. The movie was wonderfully put together with some amazing historical facts thrown in. Even with a reporters non-biased viewpoint this movie takes, you can't help but hate the SLC council members as well as many of the citizens of this state for their close mindedness, hatred, blindness, and narrowness. With the theme of the issue and the point of this whole fight, you can't help but see the idiocies of the anti-gay supporters.
Ballot Measure 9 (1995)
A True Depiction of America
Ballot measure number nine was a WONDERFUL documentary on the horrible attempt of the OCA (Oregon Citizen's Alliance) to destroy equal rights in our country. In the sense that Hitler was destroyed in W.W.II the OCA also fell, and this movie documents the moments of victory and defeats of both views. I just hope more movies like this can be produced so that more people can be frightened by the hatred that is stirring in our country because of the propaganda and fear, and insecurity of such organizations as the OCA and the Christian Coalition. Well done Heather MacDonald, and your crew, and THANK YOU.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
The Awe of Lucas
What a wonderful movie. I really can't say more. I went into this movie expecting so much and also somewhat expecting to be let down, but I was not. I was in awe the whole time at the STUNNING visual effects. Not to mention the wonderful writing and tie-ins with the future episodes. The critics have not been giving it the best reviews. Well they screwed up on the first three by not saying they were very good, and they have screwed up again (not like they get many things right) This movie is definitely worth the hype and the legend it continues to feed.
Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)
THE BEST
Star Trek the Next Generation is the best of the series so far. It has the most fame and should not have gone off the air. Wonderful acting and superb stories made this the greatest.
Get Real (1998)
Sundance's little secret
Deep in the heart of conservative Utah, there lies the best little film festival in the world. In that little film festival, lies some wonderful movies, one of the best being Get Real, a gay dramedy (drama-comedy) with some BRILLIANT acting and a WONDERFUL theme, it was amazing and so well done. Each deep scene was followed by a light hearted part. Matches the brilliance of BEAUTIFUL THING if not surpasses it, depending on whether or not you want a more comedy or not. Get Real is an amazing piece of work that everyone should see. Based after the play "What's Wrong With Angry?" Get Real is sure to be a major hit!
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Brilliant writing, Oscar Winner, for sure!
I went into this movie not knowing for sure what it was about, I mean, I knew the basics. Shakespeare, la de da. WOW, was I impressed. This had some of the most brilliant writing I have seen in a movie in a VERY long time. The acting was amazing and Joseph Fiennes was especially brilliant. I give this movie my best wishes to do well so that we may encourage other writers to follow in the same greatness!
