Granted that there are only so many plotlines to go around, but I was still struck by the resemblances between this movie and the later Evil Dead / Evil Dead 2 (the latter being a sort of remake / sequel) -- four college kids in the woods, lonely cabin, evil book translated by professor, demonic possession, scary monsters... Could both/all three been inspired by some Lovecraft story or something?

Mind you, Ash would have taken care of Asmodeous early on, making for a short movie.

Not a bad film, but probably more gee-whiz ideas than plot. Had a definite "pilot movie" feel to it.

To non-sf people, it would probably seem bold and innovative. To sf people, it would rate "OK".
