Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
Almost groovy...
This movie was about what I expected it to be... Meyers pulled a lot from the successful parts of the first Austin Powers. There were a few too many of his catch phrases that you here all over the place now ("Yeah, baby, yeah!") But there were some memorable scenes, including a funny little skit between Dr. Evil and Mini-Me doing a take-off of Will Smith's "Two of Us". And I was glad to see Will Ferrell return as Mustafa.
Gas Food Lodging (1992)
Gas, Food, Bad Acting
It's really too bad this movie is marred by poor performances from Ione Skye and Brooke Adams. In the movie, they are feuding daughter and mother, respectively, and constantly look as though they want to crack up laughing. Ione Skye did nothing in this movie to convince me that she has the slightest idea how to act. However, Fairuza Balk did an admirable job of carrying this movie as the younger, wiser daughter who's trying to keep what's left of this tormented family together.
Three O'Clock High (1987)
Outstanding flick! The cinematography is comedy all in itself...
This is one of the most underrated movies of the 80's. It's a hilarious comedy that's accented by some excellent cinematography... low camera angles to make Buddy Revell appear gigantic (a la Citizen Kane), quick zooms to add tension, quick pans... but it's done in a comedic manner. There's really no other movie to compare it to. It sort of like "My Bodyguard" meets "There's Something about Mary"... but not really.
The Search for One-eye Jimmy (1994)
Tries a little too hard at dark humor...
For those who like Fargo, Jackie Brown, and the like, this movie might be worth checking out. Samuel L. Jackson probably has the most memorable character in the movie, albeit only a five-minute scene. This flick tried a little too hard at dark humor, giving it a "scripted" feel. It has moments.
