Puddle Cruiser (1996)
Has to be Viewed in Context
First, let me say that this is a very funny movie which is given short shrift by people whose introduction to Broken Lizard was Super Troopers. The difference isn't in the movies but in the people who discovered them.
I don't know how much stock to put in the "Gen X vs Millenials" stuff, but I think it makes a difference that Puddle Cruiser came out in 1996 and Super Troopers in 2001. I was in college in 1996 and Puddle Cruiser is exactly what it was like in that specific time and place.
Super Troopers is a different movie that came out at a different time and was first viewed by a much younger audience than had "discovered" Puddle Cruiser. The difference between 20 years old in 1996 and 16 years old in 2001 is huge, and makes a difference in terms of taste and humor.
I can see how you would be disappointed if you started with Super Troopers and went back to Puddle Cruiser, but in my opinion your disappointment is because Puddle Cruiser is like an inside joke that maybe just won't be funny except to a certain age bracket/demographic. If you had a driver's license during Clinton's first term I'd say give it a shot.
Arlington Road (1999)
Jeff Bridges gets fatter, develops a bovine stare, and hangs his mouth open for two hours...
I wasn't at all impressed by any part of this movie, save the acting of Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack. I have seen movies in which Jeff Bridges fits his part, but this was not one of them. The plot was predictable, unoriginal, and sadly unsinister at times when it imagined itself to be. The only thing I remember from this movie at all is Jeff Bridges with a blank look on his face and his mouth hanging open as he runs in slow motion. Seriously, folks, let's demand something that smacks of originality a little more in the future. I'm really shocked that this movie has such a high ranking. I've seen home movies that were more entertaining (and more condensed).
Paris - When It Sizzles (1964)
Terrific for any lover of movies!
I love practically all movies for one reason or another, and I absolutely adore Audrey Hepburn. However, when I watched this movie, it was with two people who would never have considered watching an "old" movie. Fortunately for them I had the remote and they were forced to watch it, and to my great surprise, they loved it. To the intelligent lover of movies who enjoys the stop and go style of movies from that era, you will not be disappointed. The plot may seem slow at times, but when it moves, it flies. Definitely check it out if you are in an Audrey kind of mood.
Trojan War (1997)
Funniest thing I've seen in awhile...
I laughed my butt off the first time I saw this. Even though I have now seen it several times, it remains quite hilarious. Granted, it is not necessarily an original plot, but the characters are VERY funny and the acting is superb. The eighties concept of taking a normal situation and expanding it to ludicrous proportions for the sake of humor is extremely well illustrated here. I highly recommend watching this movie, but only if one goes into the viewing with the knowledge that it is not an Oscar winner, just a funny, well written movie.
Goremet, Zombie Chef from Hell (1986)
This movie looks like something my kid brother made with his home movie camera, but if you take it for what it is it can be quite entertaining.
Basically, this evil guy is killed hundreds of years ago but returns in the mid eighties as the owner of a restaurant where he is killing people and serving them to his customers. Ultimately he is trying to break some curse that has been placed upon him. The cinematography is crude and the special effects are awful, but for what it is worth this movie is not that bad. I would recommend watching it if you can ever find it.
