Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011)
Jeff who finds meaning.
I am still in awe about how this movie was able to capture the journey many young adults go through. This movie is simply amazing. Even when I think back about the movie, the sum is so much greater than its parts. In that, I mean, that the movie is so very meaningful and it seems like it has no sense of purpose... until the end. The movie is wonderfully crafted and pulls a "gotcha" over the viewer's eyes (for those that will get it). The main character essentially gives the movie away within the first minute. In my world, this movie would've won Best Picture.
It is really not that funny, nor exciting, but very pleasing. I could totally relate to this movie and it's great to see that others have gone through the same thing. A part of me hopes that the majority of the people that watch this movie, do not understand it - Like Jeff's brother in the movie, because that is reality.
I give this movie a 10/10 and there is really something wonderful here.
The International (2009)
If you like detective mysteries, you will love this!
I vaguely remember the trailers for this movie. I remember being interested at the action and wanted to watch something fun. Instead, I got something meaningful and a great-quality film.
It starts out as a "whodunnit" and progresses into a story that demands change. It's definitely not an action movie, but it has enough to keep the action lovers entertained. It has a really good pace and if you like mysteries, you will love this movie.
Clive Owen does a good job as usual. Naomi Watts is also good. In hindsight, I think this movie is underrated here on IMDb. I really enjoyed the film and gave it a 9, but I'm surprised it received anything less than a 7.5 There was not a single point in which I was either bored or irritated with the movie.
If you didn't watch it on big-screen, it's worth more than a Red-Box !
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Puts the "whoa" back in the Matrix.
Wow! Sweet! *Gulp* WHOA!
As most of you know, The Matrix Reloaded is half a story - if you did not know this, where have you been the last 4 years ?!?! I was expecting the cliffhanger at the end and it was better than I thought it would be. They could've made me pull my hair out if they stopped it a bit earlier, but I'm glad they didn't.
The movie was great. I am a Matrix fan and I love the way the directors toy around with philosophy. They want to make you think and that they do. See if you can follow the conversation after neo enters the room with a lot of t.v. screens. You'll know what I mean.
More time was spent on the characters in the first than in this sequel. The action is far better than the first and I must say the eye candy is endless! Reloaded builds on a lot of material from the first movie and raises new questions. Reloaded does a good job in expanding the story, but one who hasn't seen the first movie will be so confused he/she might wake up in the real world ;)
Emotion.. yea yea.. but come on. This is the Matrix! What were you expecting? Braveheart? English Patient? I think the movie was very well done. I will see this atleast 3-4 more times in theatres. The action is breathtaking and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Has to be some of the coolest action ever in a movie. The VFX is out of this world.
In the end, the Matrix pulls off a successful sequel. It's far better than the first and will satisfy all you hungry fans out there. But by the end of the movie, it will leave you wanting more. Can you wait 6 months? I can't !
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999)
Missing key elements
I had a chance to watch this movie last night. It was very creative - I haven't seen any other movies of the like! It was also very slow, which is okay as long as it makes a point... and I think this is where the movie fell short.
The character was very easy to understand on the surface, but he was not very well developed (only through flash backs) and minor quotes from a Samurai book?? The movie was well directed, I liked the constant pace of the movie.. nothing seemed too fast or too draggy (if it could get any slower! lol).
I couldn't connect to the character as well as I would have liked. I saw that he was following the Samurai way, but the reasons behind it were not very clear on screen. And where exactly does this guy get his gadgets from? The ghetto-friendly, neighborhood, 7-11??
And if you plan on watching this movie, remember that it is a slow-paced movie that takes a while to tell it's tale.
6/10
Route 9 (1998)
Love, Betrayal, Action and Suspense!
This movie is really good. The character development is good, but could've been a little better w/ a few of the characters. The story was somewhat new (only a few other ones like it).. but for the low budget and virtually no-name actors, this movie was really good. I really recommend this movie for anyone interested in the story. It's worth it.
