A truly great masterpiece. A must see movie for everyone!
10 May 1999
Dealing with searching for meaning in the present with events in the past this incredible film features Award winning performances from Rosa Maria Sarda and Josep Maria Pou...it traces the stories of David and his self-destructive sexual urges which in a matter of hours destroys the perfect lives of the people that surround him.In this film everything has a price and even David who is a male hustler....must pay.

Rent it Tonite!

A sweet may-december romance between an ugly young poet and sexy well-hung biker into kink and of course, leather. There is a lot of nudity with well-hung muscular men and some very ugly smart ass young guys too.Thank God for Older men.The movie moves in two directions at once, featuring the wild sex that the older man is used to...There is a stripper with a nice body and lots of Uh hum....reason to be proud of his body. Then there is the sappy poetry the young kyle writes.A nice turn by the drag queens as defenders of the community and Mink Stole as usual steals the show.

TOUCHING,REMARKABLE,OUTSTANDING,GREAT PERFORMANCES.......
4 April 1999
This film chronicles the relationship between Mildred and Doris two older women falling in love with each other and coping with years of ingrained behavior but finding the strength to let go of their old habits in order to form a loving relationship. This film also touches on the harsh realities of breast cancer as the director herself painfully demonstrates but the film is joyous a celebration of love and life that it should not be missed. Make no mistake this is a film filled with touching and real performances but also the joy of falling in love all over again. A MUST SEE FILM FOR EVERYONE,ESPECIALLY WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Romantic thriller owes much to "No Man Of Her Own"
7 March 1999
This moody romantic thriller owes its entire plot to a little known and never released on video thus far film,"No Man Of Her Own" starring Barbara Stanwyck as a pregnant woman who after a train accident is mistaken for a rich young man's wife, they both died in the accident but her troubled past comes back to haunt her. This is the same plot of this film but Nathalie Baye is no Barbara Stanwyck. Decent effort nonetheless. Also Remade as "Mrs.Winterbourne" with Ricki Lake and Shirley Mcclaine.

Sexual compulsion and Friendship.....
3 March 1999
I saw this film at the Miami Film Festival and it was well recieved by the audience, Elodie Bouchez was in attendance and she was gracious and charming. She did an incredible performance as the destitute Isabelle, hard-working and wild but it is her new found friend Marie who seems stable yet is mentally unbalanced. Carrying around deep scars and a self-destructive sexual compulsion. The films is a rather slow charater study, both well acted and competently Directed by first timer Zonka....Not great but good. Worth seeing once or waiting for the video rental.

Vampires (1998)
WAS HALLOWEEN A FLUKE?
5 February 1999
John Carpenter continues to want to compose the music for all his films, His keyboard work here brings back riffs of the score for Prince of Darkness and it just plain undermines the visuals. Some are well executed but most are contrived attempts at ART,the first half-hour is almost a remake of the 1972 Tele-film Gargoyles except with lots of Vampires..then the guy shows up at the SUNGOD motel and what is the deal with this cross-fading....Flashing red then it's like time has passed.GIVE IT UP!!!!Fear works from the unknown and John Carpenter has shown too much and James Woods and Daniel Baldwin are just awful. It seems like John Carpenter peaked early in his career, maybe now he can record a reunion album with the Coup-De-Villes.(the FOG).

Éxtasis (1996)
An incredible tale of obsession and deception
24 January 1999
Javier Bardem shows an incredible range as the leader of a group of petty thieves,he is sexually exciting and aggressive...almost intoxicating in his presence, you believe he could seduce anyone into anything. He poses as the long lost son of Federico Lupi, the great Argentinan actor, and an incredible development in the story takes place as Javier begins to like his new life and the real son becomes a threatening menace. There are moments where you feel Lupi is having his doubts about Javier's identity yet continues to play along...this is the son he always wished he had...leading up to the very tragic climax.Incredible use of camera work to pull the story along as well as a clever use of the play,Life Is a Dream. It seems that Spain is consistently turning out Top Notch Directors...Theirs must be the best school in the world.

Thesis (1996)
A Clever and Thrilling Directing debut
24 January 1999
The film begins with a subway accident and the director, using the camera to direct the audiences reactions....the true meaning of pure cinema...teases with the viewer, will they show it,I hope not but still you can't keep from watching and this is mirrored in the final moments when patients at a hospital are all held spellbound by the images on the tv screen....will they show the actual images of torture and dismemberment. This film is what Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino aspire to do but don't quite get it right....Mr.Almenabar gets it right and I can't wait to see his new film,Open Your Eyes.Surprisingly,no one has attempted an American remake yet...THANK GOD!All Hollywood knows how to do is Blow Things UP!

A dark tale of romantic obsession
24 January 1999
Ana Belen gives a tour-de-force performance as Desideria, a woman who is fulfilling her societal obligations by marrying her college sweetheart and living the perfect life in the eyes of her friends but it is her sexual urges that are not being fulfilled until on a trip to Turkey she meets YAMAN....Georges Corraface fills this character with seething sensuality and dangerous passion.....he takes her forcefully and this is what she craved. To be desired,to be ravaged....to feel alive. She leaves her husband and returns to live a life with Yaman...from his reaction you get the impression he seduces many women, and always hears their vows of returning to him.Desideria has and now she is in a land where she does not speak the language.GREAT FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
