Charlie's Angels (2000)
Great Fun!
It took me a long time to get around to renting this movie. I'm not a big fan of most of the cast, except for Bill Murray, who was the reason I finally broke down. After seeing the movie, I have to say the casting was right on!
It shouldn't surprise me that women gave this movie a higher rating than men. My ex-wife loved the TV series but I could only watch it if I wore a Walkman to drown out the sound! I especially loved the sex appeal aspect... it's supposed to be cute and fun and it was! Special effects were well done. The story was well done but was overshadowed by the beauty of the female form. Very nicely done!
Road Trip (2000)
Tom Green is insane, as usual...
Actually, Tom was pretty toned down for this. I enjoyed the mouse and snake routine and in the end, the mouse walks away! This movie also has a bit of the "Man Show" influence. Showing nudity for the sake of nudity- good enough reason for me, I like nudity that's done just for the fun of it! Amy Smart is stunning to look at! Story line is old but good plots are highly overrated anyway. This was just plain good fun!
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
It's all Sandra Bullock!
What else can I say, I love Sandra Bullock! She could make an hour and a half long video of herself trying on different outfits and I would buy it in a heartbeat! While You Were Sleeping is Sandra at her sweetest and loveliest! It has become one of my favorite Christmas movies. I didn't care for Bill Pullman in his roll as the brother/love interest. Pullman makes a great clown, as in Ruthless People but should leave more serious roles alone. I think it's that silly toothless grin of his- he comes off too uptight.
The hardest thing to believe about this movie is that Sandra wouldn't have anyone in her life! I could maybe imagine her working in a token booth. I've known other attractive women in real life who take on jobs that might be considered beneath them. She explains in the movie that she had to drop out of school when her father got sick and go to work for the Transit Authority. It just makes her more human and obtainable which I find irresistible!
What About Bob? (1991)
This movie will "baby step" its way into your heart!
This movie stays high on my list of favorite comedies for all time! Whenever corn is served around our house, someone will always ask if it was "hand shucked". Other references creep into daily conversation and always get a giggle! When a movie can impart itself as much as this one has, it gets an above average rating from me. Everyone knows someone like Bob - basically a harmless guy who always seems to come out of any situation looking good while common sense should tell you otherwise. He's a little like Forest Gump in that way. The only person in this film with "common sense" is played by Richard Dreyfus, who is Bob's analyst. Extremely well done, a movie I never get tired of watching!
Mixed Nuts (1994)
Mixed feelings
As a big Steve Martin fan, I was compelled to check this one out. I have to admit that I felt uncomfortable with it at first although it had its moments. Then, as I was trying to explain the movie to a co-worker the following day, I could barely contain my laughter! It was stupid at times but I think that's what I liked most about it!
The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995)
Witty and wonderful!
I feel sorry for those folks who *don't get* this movie! Based on actual events around 1917, we are privileged to have a glimpse at what life was like in a small coal village in South Wales. The casting was superb! I especially liked the inter-action between Reverend Jones and Morgan. And who could possibly not love Tara Fitzgerald as Betty! The film starts out with some interesting trivia about how people got their names back then- very quaint yet logical to attach an occupation to their names! The photography was wonderful at showing off the unspoiled landscape- I really felt like I was a part of the events. This movie inspires me to want to visit the final resting place of Reverend Jones with a handful of earth from my own garden!
