Mad Max 2 (1981)
One of the Coolest Films Ever!
"The Road Warrior" (I know it's not the real title ["Mad Max 2" is the real title], but I'm American) is one of the coolest films of all times. I never really cared for Mel Gibson. But then realized that whenever I would watch one of his movies, I liked it. This epiphany happened for "Maverick". The same with his direction. "Apocalypto" is one of my favorites also. So lately I've been in a Mel Gibson phase and I watched "The Road Warrior" for the first time in years. I never liked the movie when I was growing up. I have no idea why. It has everything that a preteen or teenage boy could want. A lot of action; explosions; people getting shot; you know, awesome stuff. But as I watched it again yesterday I was enthralled. I couldn't turn away. There's not a lot of dialogue. But you can understand the story, although it is a simple plot line. In today's world, the bloodshed and society fighting over the control of a gasoline refinery seems pretty foresighted for 1981. Although I guess there was a gas shortage in the late '70s. This is now one my favorites list of those films I can watch over and over.
13 Going on 30 (2004)
This is one of my faves
I'm a guy in his early 30's so I guess that I reminisce more than I should about the 80's but I can see to point where my life went on the course where I'm at now (like Jenna says early in the film Jr. high defines a girl's life). I think it goes for boys as well. It's where we learn to be the class clown, or the jock or the popular kid. so if I could go back to 1987 right now, I wouldn't wait a second. I can feel for Matty at the end as well as Jenna how life changes leaving you distant from who was once your best friend. But enough of that sappy stuff the reason I even saw a movie called "13 Going On 30" was Jennifer Garner.
Torque (2004)
Don't Take This The Wrong Way
A lot of folks are taking this movie the wrong way. It's not trying to be anything it's not; a biker flick. If you're going to this movie for an indepth plot, great acting or awesome direction; you've chosen the wrong movie. But if you just want 80 minutes of pure popcorn fun this is it.
The Wonderful World of Disney: H-E Double Hockey Sticks (1999)
A Pleasant Surprise
I was flipping through the channels on day when I happened to come across this movie. I was enthralled from the first I saw of it. I was trying to figure out who the actor was playing Griffelkin and I was surprised to find out it was Will Friedle, who I enjoyed in My Date With The President's Daughter, also a Disney movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone, even if it's just to laugh with Will Friedle.
Shaft (2000)
Shaft is one bad.....
The new Shaft starring Samuel L. Jackson is very hip. Jackson does a great job as Shaft but is a little on the mean side (at least to me).Richard Roundtree is still and will always be Shaft. Christian Bale was pretty good in a stock bad guy role. The real reason I wanted to see this film was because of the director John Singleton. He is a very visionary director but this time he lets the legends of Shaft work its own magic.
The Doom Generation (1995)
The Worst Movie I Have Ever Seen
The Doom Generation was by far the most wretched excuse for a film that I can think of. There is not one redeeming quality about this piece of junk. I am mad at myself for actually watching the entire thing. I thought that maybe it would get better and live up to its supposed "quirky" nature.
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
Anthony Minghella is a great director
Anthony Minghella is a great director. I tried not to like The English Patient because it was a "chick flick", but it was a very good film that I did enjoy. The Talented Mr. Ripley is another grand telling of a story. Matt Damon is excellent as Tom Ripley and Jude Law is also intriguing as Dickie Greenleaf. But the film belongs to Minghella.
Good Burger (1997)
I liked It
Unlike most people who saw the movie, I enjoyed it. Granted, it's not the greatest film ever made. But I liked watching Kel Mitchell perform. Hopefully he'll get better roles as his career progresses. He is a natural actor.
