The Delivery (1999)
I think some of the people above just didn't get it!
17 July 2000
I thought this movie was a refreshing take on your basic road movie. AND DESPITE what you may read above, the acting is fine, the suspense tight and story well-crafted. Maybe the Dutch viewers who gave this a poor review had greater expectations than I did, the few of us who watched this weren't sure what to expect, but I was certainly pleasantly surprised! If you like quirky or offbeat flicks, check this out!

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen!
16 December 1999
This documentary follows a Canadian bear researcher who builds a bear-proof suit of armour so he can confront a grizzly bear head on and live to tell the tale. This documentary on Troy Hurtubise is nothing short of hilarious! We follow troy through his building and testing of his 'grizzly-proof' suit to his hunt for the angry bear from donut shops and biker bars to the Rocky Mountains. As it's been said here, you have to love this guy, even though he's a little out there!

'A bear of a movie that had audiences howling with laughter.' - The Toronto Star

Another fine gem from the National Film Board of Canada.

To Die For (1995)
A Great Flick!
24 November 1999
This is a clever indie film that surpasses most of the stuff out there these days. Anyone who didn't enjoy it, obviously didn't get it. I highly recommend watching this flick, everything about it, from Nicole Kidman's performance to David Cronenberg's cameo, works well. maybe it's just to unique for mainstream movie fans?

One of the Best Holiday Movies Ever Made!
11 November 1999
Every year I take great joy in recommending this to people who have yet to enjoy irreverent comedy about Christmas traditions. All who see it for the first time immediatly fall in love with it and add it to their own list of traditional holiday viewing. If you're not not sure, check it out and see what I mean.

As good as you've heard!
1 November 1999
This mockumentary on a Teen Beauty Contest is as great as friends and others told me it was. I just loved it and it has to be the best thing that Kirstie Alley has done since she was on TV's 'Cheers'. Just loved it and Ellen Barkin too. Denise Richards and Kirsten Dunst shine, as does the entire cast. If you're looking for something fun and clever, check this out! Defintely up there with the likes of 'The Rutles' and 'Waiting for Guffman', do yourself a favor, see it with a friend...

A Film Noir Sleeper!
21 September 1999
This classic film noir crime drama is a remake of 1936's Forgotten Faces. Harry's daughter has been raised by the Judge who put him behind bars. When his estranged wife threatens him with blackmail, Harry escapes prison to keep her quiet, permanently. Brian Donlevy stars as the convict willing to sacrifice everything for his daughter, a girl who may never know her real father. A stylish thriller, that although slightly dated, is still a treat to watch if you appreciate the classics.

54 (1998)
Just missed the mark if you asked me.
9 June 1999
The story of studio 54 and the disco era is far better told in Whit Stillman's movie 'The Last Days of Disco'. Mike Myers, Neve Campbell, Salma Hayek and Ryan Phillippe all turn in fine performances, it's just that the story doesn't jell and the dialogue is lacking. The best thing I've seen Myers do, it's too bad the film is simply okay at best.

A nice little gem for family viewing!
4 June 1999
A Canadian film about a mother and son who move after an accident that has killed the husband/father and crippled the son. Feeling alone and somewhat bitter the son visits the circus only to find a neglected pony. After purchasing the horse he discovers it's pregnant and guess what it gives birth to? A unicorn! Needless to say, life then takes a turn for the better... Charming and touching film, perhaps much better than you'd ever expect, this is great for an older family audience.

A legendary band captured during a remarkable time!
26 May 1999
Morrison gives an interesting interview and his moody mystical rock performance in this tour film hosted by grace Slick and Paul Kanter of Jefferson Airplane fame (they toured with the Doors that summer). All the top songs are here in this hour-long concert film that captures the spirit of the band and the times in which it was filmed. Co-directed by band member John Densmore, this is somewhat dated when compared with today's high tech video capabilities, but it still is a must for any fan of the band and a great companion piece to Oliver Stone's movie. It leaves you definitely wanting more, the key to any successful concert flick or rocumentary.

A surprisingly cool drama about relationships...
6 April 1999
I wasn't sure of what to expect from this movie but decided to check it out as Vaughn had impressed me lately with his work in 'Clay Pigeons' and 'Return to Paradise', I thought Potter was good in 'Without Limits' and have an intense love for Joey Lauren Adams since seeing her in 'Dazed & Confused' and watching her in the romantic comedy 'Chasing Amy'. This is basically a story of a guy who finds his truelove just when his ex-wife returns and wants a second chance and just as business oppurtunities offer him success out-of-town. It's typical, most guys might say, but the movie strays away from cliches and the performances from its three stars and young actor Bobby Moat, strengthen it as a film. A date movie with substance has been suggested to me, but I prefer just to slap a 'sleeper' label on it and suggest it to couples looking for a gem on the weekend.
