Pretty good
10 December 2000
I really enjoyed this movie. I didn't go having high or low expectations...i didn't even know what to expect. I thought the fight scenes were well choreographed. I heard that the Angels (Drew Barrymore, at least) did their own stunts - not stunt doubles. Also, all the hype about the 'bad moon-walk'... I got the impression that she couldn't do it in the first place, and it was supposed to funny, a joke. At any rate, I thought it was pretty funny...Cameron Diaz' butt dance to the big butt song, and the three girls dressed up in Swedish outfits. By the way, did anybody get the impression that Charlie is Drew's dad?

Andre (1994)

Great Movie
7 June 2000
Andre has to be one of my all-time favorite movies. I read the book for a science project and was thrilled when it was made into a movie. Although it didn't follow the book exactly, I thought it was good nevertheless. Tina Majorino is a wonderfully gifted actress, and did a great job in her roll of Toni. The casting was well done, period. The sea lion (although it was supposed to be a seal) is adorable. It is a heart-warming, must-see movie.

So VERY Good
29 April 2000
I really enjoyed this movie. Never have I seen a movie in which a character displays such believable strength. Novalee had gone through so much in her young life, and Natalie Portman did an excellent job portraying her. I cannot think of another actress who would have been able to pull off a performance like that. There were tear-jerking moments and funny moments and on the edge of your seat moments, elements which make it great, because it not only ends happily, but it puts in comic relief in the most tense parts. Ashley Judd, Stockard Channing, James Frain, and Dylan Bruno also made their characters come to life. I definitely think this should be nominated for some kind of award. This movie shares the ups and the downs of being a single, teenage mother. It touches a subject many people are uncomfortable with and don't want to discuss.

Ice Angel (2000 TV Movie)
Not very good
17 March 2000
I know for a fact that there are actresses who can act AND skate. The people in this movie can only skate. How about the little girl on "Dad, the Angel, and Me?" She could have taken Tracy's part. The acting isn't very believable. For instance, at the beginning, "Danielle's" cries were heard in a totally silent stadium. I would think that there would be a bit more commotion. Nicholle Tom's character is the only one slightly believeable. Her parents are the stereotypical worried parents. I think that this movie could have been better casted, and if it was, maybe been a bit better. Just because these people are famous skaters doesn't mean they are cut out to be in the movies.

Wonderful
31 December 1999
After seeing "The King and I" cartoon, I was excited that the movie/non-musical version of the wonderful story was coming. After being in the play at my local theatre, the cartoon was a big disappointment to me. I hoped and prayed that the movie would be different. And it was. And I loved it. I haven't seen the original movie, so I can't compare. But I thought it was wonderful. The acting was magnificent - Chow Yun-Fat made the King of Siam a believable and likeable role. Jodie Foster was the stubborn yet kind schoolteacher. The children were great, of course - children usually are. The movie far out-shines the cartoon, and I hate to admit it, but the musical too. I will always love the musical, but the movie was definitely great. Great directing and cinematography. I give it a 10/10, and I think this movie has an Oscar in its future.

Love Is Never Silent (1985 TV Movie)
very good
18 September 1999
I was watching the show that came on before this movie did. I didn't really pay much attention to the first few minutes, but I looked up and young Maggie was signing. I was excited since I am taking ASL in school. I was excited because I could understand most of what they were saying. It was not only good learning experience for me, but it was a beautifully made movie. Wonderful cast, director, and believable acting. I hope my teacher will show this in class! :)

Sweetwater (1999 TV Movie)
8/10
Pretty Good
16 August 1999
Normally, I don't watch the movies on VH1, but this one caught my eye. I didn't know much about Sweetwater, and the story interested me. I don't have to blab how good it was or flaws or anything, but all in all it was entertaining. Amy Jo Johnson did a great job making her character, Nancy believable. If you have the chance to see it before VH1 stops playing it, I suggest you watch it. For me, at least, it was worth my viewing time.

Now and Then (1995)
10/10
A great movie
20 June 1999
Now and Then is one of my favorite movies. After awhile, I stopped watching it and didn't like it. I finished watching it again, and remembered how much I enjoy it. It reminds me of me and my friends - the 4 younger girls are there for each other through the tough times and the good. It doesn't matter that they are totally different, and that is a good thing to show- that not all friends are exactly alike. This film is an excellent example of true friendship. If you haven't seen it yet, go out to the video store and rent it.

GRRR!!!!!!
5 April 1999
I was extremely disappointed in this cartoon. I was recently in the play, and the 'King's kids' from the play and I went to see it today. I knew that there were some changes, but these were ridiculous! Why have Tuptim fall in love with Chululongkorn and not Lung-Thai? Why have the Kralahome be a stupid, evil guy when he actually had some intelligence in the play and movie? Why have some guy who can play mind tricks -- what purpose in the movie does he have? Also, the ballet, one of the best parts, was left out. I don't see why they had to add a monkey that seemed to be taken from "Aladdin," a jaguar, and elephants, when the plot would have been so much better w/o them. I definitely don't think that the king should have lived at the end.....I don't care if its Disney or not. The real movie/play is much better. And as I said at the end, "We were SO much better!" It's true. Don't plan on seeing it if you are faithful to the real story.

Total Plot Change
5 April 1999
You can read from my first comment that it wasn't very positive. I'm still upset that the plot was changed so much. I read some of the other reviews, and I totally agree w/ most of them. Why make the most memorable songs have some stupid twist? Like in "Getting to Know You," they went outside, something NONE of the kids had ever done. During the song, they were able to go to village, have the ballet performed, go back to the castle, and walk through a rainstorm, for which they conveniently had umbrellas. Also, Chululongkorn seemed to be much older than what I expected. From my play, he was about 10 or 11. In this, the Prince seemed to be at least 18. I agree w/ Mr. Totten - Rogers and Hammerstein ARE turning over in their graves. While my younger friends from the show and I were laughing and having fun of finally being together again, we snarled and groaned at the changes. If the producers ever make another animation from R & H or another wonderful movie, I'm not going to see it. I think that the changes are way too wild and beyond reality to make it a well directed and performed cartoon. I agree that I give it a 1....no, a 2 because they at least kept in the most memorable songs.

A great movie
28 March 1999
I really enjoyed Practical Magic. I can understand why some people were disappointed about the movie being different from the book - I just did a project where I had to read a book and watch the movie, and I was angry at the producers/writers at taking out some important characters. I don't think that the movie should be based on the book all the time. Some of the actors in P.M. are pretty amazing. (Sandra Bullock is my favorite actress) It takes a whole lot of talent to actually make it into the movie business, and the cast has talent. While Sally (Bullock) is the dark, motherly character, her sister Gillian (Kidman)is the one who has the most fun. And the daughters, Kylie (Evan Rachel Wood) and Antonia (Alexandra Atrip, are adorable and performed their characters well, being their age. Goran Visnjic (Jimmy) gives a creepy performance while Aidan Quinn (Gary) is the man young Sally makes up. All in all, I really enjoyed the movie, and I don't think that people should judge it on being different from the book. The acting alone should be judged.

The Craft (1996)
I really liked it.
28 March 1999
I really liked this movie. Robin Tunney's Sarah was somewhat stoic, Neve Campbell's Bonnie, (until her scars were removed) was innocent, and Fairuza Balk made the perfect, crazy Nancy and gave the movie what it needed to make it creepy. These actresses are really talented and I admire them for pulling off these witchy characters.
