A Pig's Tale (1994)
A plain old fun movie
Yes, the film is nothing but one huge cliche...boy falls for girl, boy has to defeat bigger boy to get girl, boy's quirky friends help boy accomplish all of this.
However, the movie turns out being what it was supposed to be--fun. In this era of every film trying to make some point or political statement, it's rare that a movie just comes around to make us laugh. Luckily, this movie came around to do just that. While it's made for children, both kids and adults...well, maybe adults, will enjoy it. Like I said before, it's just a fun little movie, and if more people knew about it, it would be sure to become a cult favorite.
Down to You (2000)
The worst movie I have ever seen
Down To You was the single worst movie ever. I would rather film my own toes for about 10 minutes and play the video in a loop for two hours straight then sit through the cinematic vomit better known as Down To You again.
This movie was bad on all levels. The story had me leaving the theater asking myself and my friends "What was that movie about?" The acting was...for the lack of a better word, disgusting. As a future theater major myself, I cringed at Freddie Prinze, Jr. and his GIGANTIC lack of any acting skills whatsoever. The other actors were pretty 'blah' themselves, most notably Selma Blair, who, if it weren't for the fact that she looks like the poor man's Neve Campbell, wouldn't be making it in the business today.
Down To You made my eyes burn, it hurt so bad. Please do me the favor and do not, under any circumstances, see this movie. Unless the theater is paying you to see it (and believe me, a theater would have to pay me quite a bit to see this one again), avoid Down To You at all costs.
The Last Dragon (1985)
I can't get enough of this movie!
I've seen the movie about 37 times, and I can recite just about every word in the film, but for some reason, I just can't get enough of it!
For those of you who haven't had the privilege to see the movie yet, imagine a blaxploitation movie mixed with a martial arts movie mixed with a Motown soundtrack. There's 'The Last Dragon' for ya, and there is my favorite movie of all time.
The movie is full of some of the wildest characters, including a very uptight producer, a terrible singer who is so good she's bad, a beautiful dance show host, and one of the most memorable villains ever.
The soundtrack is Motown...'Nuff said.
For the serious moviegoer, 'The Last Dragon' may not be your cup of tea. However, if you're willing to drop your guard for a minute, and just have a bit of campy fun, then 'The Last Dragon' is definitely for you.
Magnolia (1999)
The single best movie I've ever seen
Magnolia was an absolute brilliant blend of just about everything I've ever wanted in a film. The drama was there, the comedy was there, and the surreal was definitely there.
Instead of giving away anything about the actual story, I'd rather comment on the characters for the most part. As a high school actor, how the characters are played is something I focus on greatly. In this *cinematic masterpiece,* the actors were not playing the characters. Instead, the actors BECAME the characters, making the film much more enjoyable. There was not one bad performance in the film, and another thing that made it good was that there truly was no main character.
I just saw this movie for the first time minutes ago, and I'm definitely going to have to see it again. While it's a long movie (a bit more then 3 hours), you never will get bored, as something big will always be happening. Once again, Magnolia is the perfect blend of what a film should be, and I suggest that everyone go see it.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Definitely the best movie of the year...maybe the best of all time
"The Blair Witch Project" was quite possibly the absolute scariest movie I have EVER seen. I absolutely cannot stop thinking about it. It was so realistic, it was scary. Never have I seen a film with so much realism (in fact, I only found two lines in the movie that didn't sound all that real to me).
This year has been a year for a lot of good movies, but NONE of them have been, or will be like "The Blair Witch Project." This movie was 10 times better then 'The Matrix,' 10 times better then 'Star Wars,' 10 times better then 'Son of Sam,' and 10 times better then just about any other movie I have seen in years.
"The Blair Witch Project" is worth every penny, and if there is one movie you see this Summer, this should be it.
