Best in Show (2000)
Dumb movie with some very funny lines
We were all prepared to see a great movie tonight at the clubhouse but were very disappointed. The movie had some very funny lines and a few very funny people but it really was a dumb movie and a complete waste of time. Not recommended unless you are a big fan of some of the characters.
Time to Say Goodbye? (1997)
Outstanding movie with two great actors
An outstanding movie about the effect of aging on a large family and the wish by the father to not live out the agony of his disease. Two great actors in Eva Marie Saint and Richard Kiley give it depth and emotion. A real must see for those struggling with assisted suicide and or Alzheimers.
What Lies Beneath (2000)
Over-rated film
Two great stars giving outstanding performances for a preposterous film. The pieces don't fit together at all well. Some exciting parts but so lacking in continuity you often wonder how did the story get to the point it's at. Not at all recommended.
The Insider (1999)
An absolute magnificent movie - best I've seen in years
This is an absolute magnificent movie, in fact probably the best I've seen in years. Pacino and the actor who plays Wegand are superb. The action builds up and implants a real sense of impeding doom and amazing amount of realism. A really great, great movie.
2 Days in the Valley (1996)
Great crime drama with humor and plot twists galore
This is a great crime drama that has inumerable plot twists and surprises. The director weaves together many different stories to a great and surprising conclusion. The cast is loaded with outstanding performances. This is well worth the rental or the late night viewing.

Mr. Rock 'n' Roll: The Alan Freed Story (1999)
Very well done story of the early days of rock & roll
Judd Nelson gave an excellent performance as Alan Freed the disk jockey who coined the term Rock & Roll. All of the performances were fine and the songs of course were great. The lady who played his wife was a new face and very classy. The actor who played the heavy role was also quite good. Well worth watching.
The Perez Family (1995)
Marisa Tomei is an absolute delight and the movie is good too
We didn't expect much from this rental that we had never heard of but ended up being delighted. Marisa Tomei was an absolute delight. Angelica Houston was different than we have ever seen her and looked very attractive. Very, very good movie with a little bit of everything you could want. Marisa Tomei was wonderful.
Telling Lies in America (1997)
Nice little movie with great performance by Kevin Bacon
This was a nice little movie with a great performance by Kevin Bacon. The boy from the client was OK but not much depth. No nasty words and only minor sexual comments. Coming of age drama with great music and reasonable good performances. Worth watching.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The absolute WORST movie I have ever seen. Total RIP-OFF
This has to be the absolute worst movie that I have ever seen. The acting was awful, the story non-existent, the horror total absent. There is no reason at all to waste any time seeing this piece of utter trash. Total waste of time and money.
Runaway Bride (1999)
A great disappointment of a movie. First Julia movie we didn't like
After a number of weeks of disrupted plans my wife and I finally got to see Runaway Bride this evening. It gets one thumb down and one sideways. We had great anticipation beforehand and great disappointment by the end. Richard Gere was as always very pleasant to watch but we thought that Julia Roberts was not at all attractive in most of the film and an unpleasant character. There were a few good moments in the film but near enough of them. Without giving away the story, there was an anti-climax wedding and we happily thought that it was over. Guess what you had to sit through another twenty minutes of a poor flick
First time I ever saw a bad Julia Roberts movie.
A Cooler Climate (1999)
Very well done movie about mother/daughter relationships
I found this to be a very interesting and well done movie. We enjoyed the performances. Sally Field does an excellent job as does Judy Davis. Very interesting cross relationships make this movie well worth the time to watch.
Show Boat (1936)
Great movie, even better than the 1951 color version.
The 1951 version with Howard Keel had always been one of my favorite movies and I have perhaps seen it over 100 times. This 1936 version is even better. It more closely follows the original story and Joe has a bigger role. Irene Dunne as usual is stunning and Alan Jones better than Keel.
Great movie, worth the time.

The Matrix (1999)
Terrible, terrible movie
We read all the raves and the box office records and since we love sci-fi we went to see the Matrix. The first half of the movie was awful and we found absolutely no reason for it being made except for special effects. The story was somewhere between inane and non-existent. The second half was exciting and continued the non-existent story line. I guess there was a story of sorts but it was stupid. Probably the WORST movie we've seen in many, many years.
