The Cooler (2003)
9/10
That was absolutely terrific!
11 June 2004
It's very rare to see a film these days that totally captivates you from beginning to end...especially when it's not some big budget Hollywood blockbuster...a terrific story, absolutely brilliant acting from the entire cast, great music, great cinametography...The Cooler delivers all of that...Brilliant performances are such a joy to watch and this film delivers...Make sure you don't miss this amazing little film. William H Macy gives such a heartfelt performance It's hard to imagine this was just an acting role...OK, he's always good but this performance should really have garnered him an Oscar. Alec Baldwin is also wonderful...his gives an intensity that makes you uncomforable...And Maria Bello is just plain great!

Excellent! Where is Cheadle's award????
17 March 2004
Why Don Cheadle did not receive a major award for this film is shocking! This is one of the best actors around today and his performance in this film is amazing. It's the subtle way he handles himself and the intense focus that he gives that is very rare these days. He works a lot but I feel he is one of the more underrated actors around. That said, the rest of the cast is also excellent! Such strong acting from all of them. The filmkmaking is very realistic...they were going for that "documentary" style shoot and they captures it very well...finally, I'm always very happy to see a great film shot on video...It's not money that makes a film good, it's talent!

EXCELLENT!
7 November 2003
This is definitely one of the best films I've seen in some time…and I'm not one for `feel good' movies or sappy garbage for the sake of being sappy but this film is just brilliant! The acting is superb! The writing is excellent, the music, everything. It's also VERY funny! I didn't see it in while it was still in theatres because I thought it would be typical but I can't believe how good it was

Destined to become a cult clasSICK!
26 October 2003
I really miss the late 70s and early 80s when you could catch some amazing cult films at Midnight showings...Strange things Happen At Sundown would have been perfect to watch at one of those...This is one of the more intelligent, funny, gory cult films to come out in some time...Definitely a unique take on vampires...Mobster vampires is just a great idea and it was executed so well...The film is smothered with writhing, bloody women and an amazing score...Unlike any of the low-budget horror films I've seen in some time and MUCH better than the big budget horror films out there!

Well that was a complete waste of 2 hours!
26 October 2003
I heard about this film while at the NY Horror film festival where the audience was told they HAD to see this intense & brutal movie…and I read some reviews that called it amazing and gripping…LIES! I recently became a fan of Gasper Noe's `Irreversible' and that was an amazing, brutal and brilliant piece of filmmaking, so this also being a French film I thought it might live up to the hype. Well, don't waste your time…this was perhaps the most boring film I have seen in years…It was boring, then briefly brutal then boring again…it tries to be artistic but it's really just autistic…it's not a daring brave piece of filmmaking because it truly makes no sense…I tried very hard to find either the reason for the woman's actions or the hidden meaning in them…NOTHING! Someone had a very good idea and executed in a terrible, boring, artsy, unjustified way.

Angela Bettis is amazing!
29 August 2003
This is a very interesting film...it's original, very well acted and keeps you interested throughout...so many darker films these days lose your interest half way through...the reason this film succeeds is because of the absolutely brilliant performance by Angela Bettis...she plays this role so well I can't even explain...Definitely worth checking out.

Most realistic Prostitue film ever made
16 August 2003
This is really half fact/half fiction...could have been a documentary on the lives on NY prostitutes. Some of the best acting I have seen in ages (unfortunately, half weren't acting). This movie has NOTHING to do with that piece of garbage WHORE...it shouldn't have been released as the sequal...very impressive film.

Horrible!
26 July 2003
The first CUBE was amazing. it was so original, creepy and just a very cool film. Even though most sequels aren't very good I was really excited to see Cube 2...wow...I can't even begin to explain how bad this movie is...it was a rip off of the first but with no tension, no build up, no quality of any kind. In the first Cube you felt like you were really watching people caught in this claustraphobic, little Twilight Zone world...This was such an apparent soundstage with really bad acting, terrible writing and...well, you get the point.

So Damn Funny!
18 July 2003
I have not laughed so much during a movie in a very long time...it was a sweet, romantic comedy that was very sweet, very charming and damn funny! it went out of theatres very quickly but you should definitely rent it when you can.

Nice visuals, weak story.
22 June 2003
I was very impressed by Desecration...it had some of the creepier images I have seen in some time and the story held me...Unfortunately that was not the case with HORROR. Yes it had some great images and atmosphere but that is not enough to make a good horror film. No the story doesn't have to be amazing, but this film's story was weak...the dialogue was weak and the acting was weak...I am a firm believer that even the lowest budget horror films can and should have strong acting...strong actors are what actually sell the fright side of any horror film...This would have made a really good 10 minute short, or if it has a strong script and good actors, could have been a really great horror film.

Better than I thought!
30 May 2003
Some compare this movie to Texas Chainsaw, I somewhat see the comparison but it's a lot more like Mother's Day...in many ways (without the humor)...I thought this move would be far too predictable...How many "don't go into the woods" movies can you make anymore? But it's actually really good...the movie moves at a nice pace and it keeps you interested throughout...the best part of this movie, and what saves it from being a typical "woods" movie are the "Mountain Men"...these guys are creepy as hell! They look great and they are the reason I can totally recommend this movie...For the most part Hollywood can't make a good horror film anymore because they're too concerned with stars and budget, Low-budget, indie horror is the way to go...but this time they did OK.

Wow...I was actually bored
2 May 2003
I thought the first movie was great...and I don't want to compare the two...but this movie was so boring...it's as if nothing actually happened...seeing some of the newer characters was nice but this script was so lame...as was the action. Once again they did little to nothing with Storm and it seemed like Wolverine was the only one that can fight...I was really looking forward to this but I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could get out of there...Can someone please tell me how you can have such a huge budget and so many wonderful stories (from the comic history) to choose from and end up with this????

Don't even waste your time
2 May 2003
I love horror...I appreciate the sickest horror...I love disturbing films...even when they push the envelope as long as there is something good about the film...this film offers nothing. No story, nothing sick done is a "cool" way...it's really, really bad...I bought it because I want to see all the so called "SICK", banned films from the 70's & 80's...this one is just a waste of your time.

A really good, Non-typical Lesbian film.
4 April 2003
Although this movie is very raw (shot on DV) it's very funny, powerful and really draws you in. Basically a story about a female gang member from the Bronx that falls in love with a struggling young mother that is trying to survive her abusive relationship. Some great acting in this film as well! Really worth checking out if you can find it.

Excellent!
28 March 2003
I'm not sure how this film can get the bad reviews that I've read as it is really, really funny. The chemistry is great, it's really a very cute & funny film...well worth going to! Steve Martin continues to be one of the funniest and most charming actors that we have!

What an an amazing piece of filmmaking. I was so impressed with this film...the acting was just superb...Tom Hanks gets called a blockbuster star but his acting ability is really amazing...As popular as he is I still believe he is underrated as an actor...the filmmaking is beautiful & powerful...See this movie!

One of Troma's Better films!
24 November 2002
I love Troma...I don't really like most of their movies because...Well, their not that good...Yes I know, that's part of their charm...But sometimes bad is good...and sometimes bad is just bad...Terror Firmer is actually really, really good...especially if you know how Troma works behind the scenes...Lloyd's Daughter almost steals the show...she is very funny in this (and unfortunately one of the better actors)...Also a great appearance from Joe Franklin...In my opinion MUCH better than Tromeo & Juliet...funnier with better sex & violence...And if you get a chance to watch the DVD, the making of Terror Firmer is excellent!!!!!

Good, but not nearly as good as Manhunter.
4 October 2002
Yes, this film had a lot more money and it had Anthony Hopkins but the film that it remade, Manhunter was just superior. I thought William Peterson made a much better Will Grahm, I just felt him a lot more...also Tom Noonan made a MUCH creepier Francis Dolarhyde. If I had never seen the original I would have thought Red Dragon was excellent but there was a vibe in Manhunter that Red Dragon just didn't have.

Williams is Brilliant!
31 August 2002
This is simply a great film. It's sad and haunting and it lures you in and does not let you out. Robin Williams, in my opinion, is one of the most under-rated dramatic actors of our time...although he is funny, he does such a wonderful job with dramatic roles and he is just brilliant in this. The direction also is excellent...It's not a horror film but it's very disturbing and one of the better films I have seen in some time.

Terrible...what a waste
25 August 2002
I have no problem with ridiculous spoof comedy...but this is simply a waste of time. It's as if someone just did a bad dub job over someone else's movie...but NOT funny, just stupid...Like perhaps a drunk frat guy would find this amusing... What pisses me off is that there are so many really, really good low-budget films out there that have no chance of being seen due to lack of $$$$ but this piece of garbage gets a NATIONAL RELEASE because someone had the money???? This is why Hollywood has the horrible reputation that it does...

Garbage! Rent the original!
12 July 2002
I am a huge fan of Michael Myers & Horror Films and that is why I was so disgusted with this film. I guess the director never saw the original or he would know the difference between a really original and scary film and a pretentious waste of time. Look, Having Michael Myers Kill people is not all it takes to make a good horror film...Without even comparing this to the original (Because that would be a crime) it is another typical hollywood waste. If a film is really scary or interesting then you don't care about the plot, or the dialouge...but when you're as bored as I was watching this you realize just how bad those things are. Not to mention that with the exception of Busta & Jaime Lee, the characters are SO ANNOYING. He wasn't killing them fast enough! Rent the original, save your money...

Weak...really, really weak!
24 June 2002
OK...even though this film seemed totally predictable I am all for a woman kicking a man's butt so I went...WOW...this was really sad...the writing I mean...The dialouge is terrible...JLo isn't very much of an actress in this although she is really trying (just not selling it)...The fact that it takes only 1 month for this woman to take on someone so much stronger than her is quite misleading (even for Hollywood)...The actress that plays the little girl is excellent however...and I'm sure she made much less many than Ms. Lopez... I actually found myself laughing at the end of this...it was so damn silly! If you want to see a kick ass woman watch ALIENS or TIMES SQUARE.

One of the greatest Horror Films of All TIME!
27 May 2002
From the amazing performance of Joe Spinell to the Brutal Make-up FX of Tom Savini, this is perhaps the mother of all Horror Slasher Flicks...Written to be "Jaws on Land"...this film captures to wonderful vibe on New York City in the late 70's

Wow, was this boring!
25 May 2002
Please, forget the hype...the first hour and a half are SOOOO boring...Sure, the visuals are wonderful...but that's not enough to hold an entire film...The early Star Wars films has characters that you liked or even hated but at least you cared...You really don't care about ANYONE in this film...at all...the last 30 minutes are very exciting and the action is great...but wow did the first half put me to sleep.

Awful, just terrible!
15 April 2002
I thought WISHMASTER was really, really good...especially since Andrew Divoff did such an amazing job...WISHMASTER 2 wasn't much but DIVOFF still made it very entertaining. I can't tell you how awful Wishmaster 3 is...It's not Divoff and the new Wishmaster isn't scary or even intimidating. The story sucks...Watch the first one again...it's not even worth the rental price.
