The Awakening (1980)
Misunderstood Movie
This movie was a sleeper from 1980. With such an accomplished cast, you would have thought it would be a real money maker. However, due to a poor and boring script, it failed to make notice and is now unremembered. Being a fan of mummy pictures. I rather enjoyed it. If just for the location shooting in Egypt, and the beautiful Tutankhamen artifacts that are shown throughout the picture. I also thought Stephanie Zimbalist did a particularly good job of acting in this as well as the others in spite of the script difficulties, which is proof of their various talents. In summation. I would see this again. It is worthy of at least one showing to anyone interested in this kind of mummy clap-trap.
Ike (1979)
Great film!!! Great actor!!!
This film more than any other one tells me what a great actor Robert Duvall is! He is totally immersed in his character. With the makeup, he IS Ike. And Lee Remick is perfect in her role as Kay Summersby. I would recommend this movie to anyone.
Sergeant York (1941)
Good Flick
This is a good representation of one of the greatest heros of wwI. Gary Cooper is totally believable as the sharpshooter Alvin C. York. I'd say if they made this movie today he would be regarded as a right wing gun nut but, lets remember our heritage is full of good people who own guns. The only thing I can see is wrong with this fine movie is the rifle used in the movie was a 1903 springfield when in reality it was a p-17 enfield he was issued. All in all this is a very watchable movie.
Operation Crossbow (1965)
A lesson in bad German
This movie was Fair but It would have been better if they had just let the actors speak in their respective true languages. having studied German I can truthfully say that the main characters of this film would have blown their identities the minute they asked for a room! their accents are terrible! with the exeption of the real German speakers, they make me cringe with every line they speak in this tongue. Its a shame that Carlo Ponti didn't notice this mistake.
White Heat (1949)
Great Flick
This is one of the best Cagney films of all time! As Cody Jarret he is at his peak. For all you people who were raised in the San Fernando Valley, note the begining of the movie, the filming was done in Chatsworth calif. When they pan the camera, you can see Stony Point and Santa Susanna pass road in the foreground. Also, where they stop the train is the santa susanna tunnel.
Targets (1968)
A must see for anyone that grew up in the san fernando valley!
This movie is a walk through nostalgia for me! I remember the days of the Reseda drive in (now long torn down.) and the Standard oil tanks off the 405 freeway. Even if the movie stinks it will always be a must see for me, just to see those old sights of my youth. By the way, the guy that gets shot in the phone booth is Mike Farrel of M*A*S*H fame.
