Evolution (2001)
I guess I have watched too much of the X-files!
The title sounded interesting, and the fact that David Duchovny was in it coaxed me to rent this movie. Unfortunately it was a little too juvenile for me. If you are over 35, you may be wasting your time with this one. I watched the whole thing since it was only 101 minutes, but I was glad when it was over. I guess the special effects were pretty good, but it was not enough to make up for a weak plot and poor acting. In summary, I wish that I had rented something else!
High Fidelity (2000)
Funniest picture I have seen this year!!! (2000)
The most important thing for me is can I enjoy a movie without overanalyzing it. If I can, I feel it is a good one if not, Then it is not. I liked this movie from start to finish. All the actors gave excellent performances. I personally don't know any characters like the ones portrayed, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. High Fidelity is a comedy, love story, and a shot of nostalgia all wrapped up in one.
The script allows the characters to be multi dimensional and you feel like you know them a little by the end of the movie.
I gave this movie a 9 out of 10. I'm glad that I saw it and it caused me to laugh out loud at many of the situations that developed.
Supernova (2000)
Fortunately this was only 90 minutes long.
I was running out of films that I wanted to watch, so never having seen anything about this movie, I rented it because it looked to at least be an action adventure movie. If this movie had a plot, I failed to figure out what it was. The special effects are fairly good, and strangely enough I actually enjoyed watching it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else though.
I guess I should have had a clue about the quality of this movie due to the fact that it doesn't have any "Stars" in it. I have never heard of or seen any of the cast before!
Save your time and money, and watch something else!
Where's Marlowe? (1998)
Making Home Movies 101
I rented this movie last night without any idea of what it was, but even though it might have been rated as a one star movie, strangely I enjoyed it. It really flip-flopped around a lot and it was hard to keep track of the characters at times, but it was really pretty funny as a satire of P.I. movies. I got to rent it for a dollar, and it was surely worth that price. Miguel Ferrer was great as always. Even if a movie is so so, his acting is always first class.
If you are at the video store, and nothing else looks good, try this one.
Stuart Little (1999)
Light Fare for a relaxing Saturday Evening!
Was not sure if I would enjoy it, but it played out really well. The animation was excellent. The premise for the movie might be a little far out for some people but it's just light entertainment and if that's not your "cup of tea", just rent something else. I for one enjoyed the 80 + minutes of this film, and I'm over 60. If you have kids and they haven't seen it, rent it and enjoy it together. Some of the scenes might scare the "wee" children, but the "were family" message is upbeat!
Groundhog Day (1993)
This one is really a 10 in my mind!
Just got done watching this movie within past hour, and while its been around for a while I had never seen it. Bill Murray was not one of my favorite actors, but he did an excellent job in this movie. I hadn't read any information on the movie, so I was surprised with the developments. It really is worth while watching to see the interaction of the other characters as Murray continues to relive Groundhog Day. Don't think they could have made any improvements in the movie. If you haven't seen, rent it, or it may show up on free TV, but watch it!
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Surprise Ending worth the Wait!
This is one of the most enjoyable films of this type that I have watched in years. Acting was great. You are never quite sure where it is all going, but when it gets there, all the clues given along the way make sense at last. Unless someone tells you what it is, you will never guess the ending, and I guess that is the mark of a good film. I am an action, adventure fan, so the pace is a little slow at times, but I still rated it a 10. Rent it and Enjoy!
Love Stinks (1999)
Clever Movie worth watching.
I just rented this movie today, and came to imdb to check out the comments so I could get some idea of how others enjoyed the movie. When you are a single guy, you can really relate to this movie. Fortunately most of us don't come out of relationships quite this bad. French Stewart and Bridgette Wilson really pulled this off. I especially liked the ending, and wasn't quite sure what it would be even though hints were there.
It's not Gone With The Wind, but enjoy if for what it is, an over the top comedy that really hits its mark!
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
Should be rated LB for Low Budget!
I rented this on DVD since the title sounded like it might be good action adventure movie. The plot is thin, the acting is sub par, and the ending was certainly welcome by me. I feel that this movie is a waste of time. It was made in 1976, and certainly will never become a classic. Beware! Watch at your own Risk! The time you waste will never be recovered!
