Heartfelt..but dissapointing
21 March 2000
Essentially, this movie has all the makings for..well, a better one. Claire Danes plays a quiet girl with sad eyes, and unloving parents who spends most of her time with her Grandmother. One day in english class, she reads aloud a poem written about Jude Law's character, "Ethan", who is the stereotypical jock/playboy on campus. The two get together...blah blah blah..

I won't tell you anymore except the the ending is VERY dissapointing. It's as though the movie just, ends. You don't see it coming, you feel like it should be starting to get good, and the plot holes filled up..well, they aren't, and it does. It's really quite aggrivating. Jude Law and Claire Danes performances are great, but not quite enough to push this movie onto my favourite list. But, don't let me discourage you, it's worth the rent.

Get the Kleenex out for this one!
4 February 2000
I am Irish, and whenever I can, I try to see movies that are about Ireland. The only detremental thing about this is, and I don't believe I'm alone in this feeling, that ALL IRISH MOVIES ARE SAD. Have you noticed this?! Everything is a trajedy: forbidden love, heartbreak, deciet, treason, death, war, destruction...watching an irish movie isn't really entertainment. This movie was a very well acted one. It wasn't fun to watch, because, as you soon will find out, it is EXCRUTIATINGLY heartbreaking, and I cried for a good part of it. (at the end, I was BAWLING!) Aidan Quinn, having lived in Ireland for many years when he was a child, along with his brothers: cinematographer Declan, and director Paul, has no trouble passing off the accent, and fits very well into his role. It is an excellent movie, but, in my personal opinion, James Caan seemed displaced in his role... He doesn't even look irish, maybe its must me I still associate him with the Godfather movies.. After watching, "This Is My Father," I STRONGLY suggest you see, "The Matchmaker," which is a light-hearted irish comedy.. ENJOY..

Stuart Little (1999)
10/10
the most adorable film ever made!!
3 December 1999
This is the cutest film I've ever seen!! It has good, clean humour that still managed to leave my sides splitting, and is sure to be a hit for all ages. Michael J. Fox's voice fits the little mouse to the tee. Jonathon Lipnicki is fabulous, and so is Geena Davis and John Laurie.. Personally, my favourite character in the film, is that cat! What an attitude! No matter what age you are, I URGE you...go see this film!! You'll be REALLY glad u did!!

This movie proves that the notion of love at first sight can exist.

This is one of the greatest movies ever made. It really is. With Rock Hudson as the lead (as far as im concerned), and Jennifer Jones as his love interest, this pair lights up the screen with their love for each other.

The cinematography is wonderful, the shots are well thought out, and they capture each moment perfectly. (as if Rock Hudson needs any help!) When your happy in this film, your really happy, when your sad, your really sad. Both are in the extreme cases. This film has one of the saddest endings you'll probably ever see, so keep the tissues near by...I know I needed them! Unlike the more recent "over-hyped" version, entitled "In Love and War" which stars Chris O'Donnell, and Sandra Bullock, this version stays very close to Ernest Hemmingway's Book. (A Farewell to Arms) Although IL&W was a great movie, and shared a very sad ending, I still have to believe that the older version was the better of the two. There's just something about it! Don't take my word for it, go rent it!!! It's time well spent, I'll assure you of that! It's a well deserved 11/10 in my book.

Single-handedly the most disturbing film ever made.
5 September 1999
Im writing this less than an hour since I've saw "The Blair Witch Project". This is the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. There is not one moment in this film where you don't feel disturbed, to put it lightly. You feel terror, genuine terror, because the images are SO real. The entirety of the film, your scrunched down in your seat, biting your nails down to the blood! You want to scream but you can't because its caught in your throat, your heart is beating overdrive: therefore at the end, it feels like it'll explode, your breathing spiratically, heavy, and shallow... If your not one for horror movies, even if you are, think twice about going to see this because theres not one moment, not one that your totally at ease with it. This movie scared the s--- out of me, and let me tell you something people, I will NEVER, NEVER go into the woods again! PERIOD.

weak script, terrible music...but Dylan McDermott was great!
5 September 1999
First of all, not even the title is good. I think this film would have been good if there was more of a definate plot to it. Within 25 or so odd minutes, you already get the gist of whats going to happen! It's a total "cop-out"! The only good part of this flick, was Dylan McDermott. Not only was he really believable, he brought a certain charm to the role. (The looks did help though) *smiles* One thing he (Dylan) does well in this, is scream. I mean scream at the top of his lungs, till hes purple in the face..it was heart stopping, in other words awesome. Another thing he does well, hes got a great mouth to swear with, it just sounds better. Is that weird? Anyway, see for yourself, if only to see McDermott!

Are you really sure what your daughter's doing?
22 August 1999
I really liked this film. It has a certain charm to it, one that seems almost subliminal, because its always there. Instead of painting a flat, uninteresting portrait of a polish family who is somewhat stranded in "Motor City", the plot of "Polish Wedding", unravels slowly, and leaves you wanting more. It takes you through their everyday life; their joy, their pain, and yes, even their betrayal towards one and other. This film has something that is rarely seen in cinema today, good, well acted characters. Each of them demonstrate a realism within their roles, as if that is who they really are. During parts of this movie, you feel as though you're looking through a window, instead of lounging on the couch in front of the t.v. In the 1h 50min's, or so of "Wedding", one comes to know a baker, a house-wife, a dropout, and a "bad-boy" cop. The sloue of emotion in this film is what truly sets it apart from some of the more heavily advertised of the year. It is a great film, a truly great film, and one that surely deserves a renting or two.

An okay movie, but defineately not one of Rock's best.
15 July 1999
Although this was a fairly entertaining movie, it just didn't seem "to do anything for me." Usually, after witnessing the "magnificent" Rock Hudson on film, I'm left feeling "all warm and tingly," (smiles) inside. He gave an acceptable performance in "MO", but it certainly wasn't one of his best. With some shame, I have to admit that if it had not been for the mere fact that Rock Hudson WAS in this film, I wouldn't have stopped and watched the whole thing. I, as you don't know am a female, and there's something about Rock with no shirt on that attracts me. (laughs) Jane Wyman was, well, lets say believable- at times. Sure she stopped after bumping into things and felt her way around rooms with her fingertips, but when Merrick, (Rock Hudson) spoke to her she would often look right at him, also her eyes were straight ahead and she'd move them around often in the same direction as she was going. It would have been better if she worked on this a little more. Certainly though, being only 16, but an AVID classic fan, I don't know everything, but I try to notice the little things. So my advice to people out there- if your a Rock Hudson fan as I am, rent it, when he's scrubbing up for "her operation" near the end, and-oops! has no shirt on..well thats theatre gold!! thanks for the memory. erin
