The Lonely Ones (2006)
Nice work!
I have seen a lot of low budget horror films; even though most of them are pretty bad by any standard. "The Lonely Ones" is exactly the sort of quality effort that keeps me on the lookout for rare cinematic gems. It has a very well written plot, some very good performances, fairly grisly special effects and much better executed scares than any of Hollywood's PG-13 so-called horror films. Kudos also for making use of a mythological monster that exists in almost every culture, but which I can't recall ever having seen used in a horror movie. Well worth checking out; especially for real horror fans! I look forward to seeing the next project by Mister Quiroz.
Fallen Angels (2002)
Not a very thrilling "thriller"
A very attractive and capable cast is lost in this deadly boring rehash of the slasher sub-genre. The plot a simply a collection of cliches and set-pieces that we've all seen a hundred times before. Has great potential as an insomnia treatment.
Slackers (2002)
Irredeemably awful!
If you enjoy films like American Pie, Road Trip & Van Wilder; avoid this cinematic refuse at all costs. It is an unamusing, mean-spirited, insipid waste of resources that should never have been discussed aloud; much less actually recorded and sold to unsuspecting consumers. Easily the worst film I have seen in the past 18 months; mind-numbingly bad for the entire 86 minutes of it's runtime. Had it been much longer, I would not have been able to write this review without using profanity. Consider yourself warned!
American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002)
A very disappointing (and unnecessary) sequel
The original film (starring Christian Bale & Reese Witherspoon) was a clever & insightful piece of cinema. Unfortunately; there are few redeeming qualities for this superfluous sequel. It is a trite, obvious and somewhat dull movie that never even rises to a level of B-movie entertainment. If you are looking for a movie in the serial killer sub-genre; place this time waster at the bottom of the list. If you a expecting black comedy; don't waste your time. Hopefully the very talented and beautiful Ms Kunis will choose her film projects more carefully in the future.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
A difficult film to forget.
One of the most striking things that I noticed after seeing the film is that even several days later, I was still thinking about several of the scenes. I can't remember the last time that I saw a film that had the same lasting emotional impact. I don't know how well the film stands up to multiple viewings, but I think that I will have to go back to see it again because I can't quite stop thinking about it.
I am a veteran viewer of many horror and suspense movies and this is the only movie that I have seen since I was a child that actually frightened me.
I would recommend this film for anyone seeking an intense visceral, emotional, and visual experience.
