And So They Were Married (1936)
Donner Summit Scenery
I enjoyed this little bit of fluff movie for its story line and the stars portrayals of their characters. But I most enjoy seeing the location shooting of the snow walls along the Lincoln Highway (old Hwy 40) ascending to Donner Summit in 1935 and the views looking down upon the snow encrusted Donner Lake and the serpentine highway with an auto driving up with tire chains. Yes, tire chains used in snow in 1935. Enjoy the movie for what it is as light holiday entertainment but if you've ever skied on Donner Summit or traveled over the summit in the winter en route to Reno you can also enjoy it for the 1935 views of winter travel.
This Is Not a Test (1962)
Interesting but, in same genre, "Split Second" much better all around.
If you find this atomic bomb era film interesting or informative of the duck and cover time period I would heartily recommend that you view "Split Second" by Dick Powell. It has an RKO budget and Hollywood B stars such as Richard Egan, Stephen McNally, Alexis Smith, Jan Sterling and Keith Andes. It has much better acting, writing and production values. In each of these films people of various social and moral backgrounds are placed in tense situations in close confinement, that is a pressure cooker situation. Both this film and "Split Second" are informative of the real fear of atomic warfare that was in the back of our minds in the 50' and 60's.
Texas Trail (1937)
good outdoor "Hoppy" adventure added kid interest
As with most Hopalong Cassidy films this one has good action and amazingly authentic feel for period setting and beautifully filmed locations, especially for Saturday morning features. This one moves more toward the kiddie audience with a youngster named Boots coming to Hoppy's rescue. Much to my surprise and delight Hoppy movies are starting to show up on TV again after a prolonged absence.
