Mot i brøstet (1993)
HA HA HA HA
Oh my God!!!! I loved this show! I would laugh so hard I just about fell off the couch! I laughed until I was out of breath and tears were spurting out of my eyes. I almost had a stomach ache after every single half hour of this show. I hope it all comes out on a collection DVD!!!
Elling (2001)
Ah, finally!
I finally got to see this movie! My mother bought the DVD for me as a Christmas gift and I just watched it yesterday. It was every bit as good as I had expected. Funny and warmhearted at the same time. "Elling" deserves all the praise it has gotten in media all over Scandinavia and possibly other countries as well. The difference in the dialects and demeanors of Elling and Kjell Bjarne might be lost on people who don't understand Norwegian, but it is hilarious for us who do. They both speak Oslo-dialect, but Elling speaks extremely refined and is very correct and prissy, and Kjell Bjarne's dialect and demeanor is totally working class.
A Knight's Tale (2001)
Just a well-meaning tip.
I loved this movie, couldn't stop laughing! I just wanted to say this: When you go see it, make sure you stay in the theater until the end credits are finished rolling.. there's a neat little surprise right at the end!
Wuthering Heights (1992)
I am swooning!
Oh dear... I just watched "Wuthering Heights" on TV tonight... I love that story, have read the book ages ago and several times. For some inexplicable reason, I had missed this wonderful movie. Ralph Fiennes was more than wonderful as Heathcliff.. *ahem* and Juliette Binoche was great as Cathy. I also thought it was a cute touch to have Sinead O'Connor portray Emily Bronte. I am now going to fetch my Kate Bush CD with the song "Wuthering Heights" on it and play it really loud!
Flåklypa Grand Prix (1975)
Yippee! This wonderful movie is coming out on DVD!
Oh, joy and rapture!!!! I just found out yesterday that "Flåklypa Grand Prix" will be released on DVD this coming fall! I am Norwegian and this is my favorite movie of all time, I love it dearly. I belong to the generation that saw it when it was brand new, us kids talked about it forever and ever and everybody saw it several times. I can hardly wait to buy it on DVD. I live in the US but I have a multi regional DVD player that can switch between NTSC and PAL!
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Phaaaarrrpp!
I just thought of this movie again today..not sure why, though.. I saw it when it was new, and laughed myself silly. I especially remember something close to the end of the movie: Jeff Daniels has to go to the bathroom real bad because of the laxative-laced coffee Jim Carrey gave him. So, he sits down on the toilet and lets loose a riptide of fart sounds... I laughed so hard at that, I screamed and hollered and lost my breath, tears were streaming down my face. Just as I thought I had managed to regain composure, he (Daniels) lets out this little squeaky fart and there's a look of ultimate bliss on his face. Well, I just lost it all over again. At that point, I was very glad that I was in a dark movie theater, so nobody could see me and wonder about my age. (I was 29!!!!) I noticed an earlier comment here saying that Dumb and Dumber is a movie for guys, because it caters to their immature humor. Well, ex-squeeze me, I'm a woman, and I still laugh at body functions!!
Where the Heart Is (2000)
Fairly good adaptation of the book
I read Billie Letts' book "Where the heart is" when it was new, and I loved it! I think I vaguely remember Billie Letts mentioning something about it being made into a movie when the book was featured on Oprah's Book Club last year. I went to see the movie today, on its opening day. I see in the previous comments here that Natalie Portman receives a lot of praise for her portrayal of Novalee Nation. While I agree that she did a good job, she just wasn't compatible with my mental image of Novalee. The Novalee described in the book was overweight. One thing I absolutely did not see the point of was changing the number she was afraid of from 7 (as it was in the book) to 5 (in the movie). Also, I wondered why they had Sister Husband give her the Buckeye tree instead of Benny Goodluck, they could have made room for his minor character. Stockard Channing was great as Sister Husband. Sally Fields did great at her short stint as Novalee's trailer trash mom. And the actor who played Forney Hull did a wonderful job. In my mind, Ashley Judd did a great job as Lexi Coop, but again, my mental image of Lexi Coop was somewhat different, I certainly hadn't imagined her that pretty. These are risks one always has to take when seeing a movie based on a book one has read, and all in all I think the movie turned out very good.
Fucking Åmål (1998)
I love coming of age movies
Yup, I am very attracted to coming of age movies, and coming of age books. I loved "Fucking Åmål", I saw it in Norway this past summer when it was new. I am originally from Norway and was back there for a summer visit. I am neither a teenager nor a lesbian, but I think everybody can identify with certain parts of that movie. It is not the best coming of age movie I've ever seen, I think that honor goes to another Swedish movie "Mitt liv som hund" (My Life as a Dog). I found out yesterday that "Fucking Åmål" is about to be released here in the US. But the title has been changed to "Show me Love". I could go on about that forever but that would be extremely off topic. Go see it!!!!
Limbo (1999)
Wham!
This is all so weird!!! I hadn't heard a word or seen a single preview for LIMBO. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I was looking for soemthing in the alphabetical mini reviews in our newspaper weekend section. My eyes were all of a sudden drawn to the entry for LIMBO, maybe it was because I noticed it had 4 stars, I don't know. I read the little mini review and decided that I really wanted to see it. I showed my husband and he thought it looked interesting, too. Well, we didn't get around to it until last night, and now I can't get over it! It's the first John Sayles film I've seen, now I think I need to see some of his previous ones! LIMBO kind of hit me on the head with a big bat, I am still reeling. I loved every second of it, even the ending!! There were some "HUH"s and "what the ****?" heard in the theatre, but those were just from people who can't deal with anything but sappy Hollywood happy endings stuck on absolutely everything, whether it fits or not. Besides, it was so GREAT to see a really good, wonderful, make you think and feel kind of movie now in the summertime, when everything else seems to be fluff, silly stuff and disasters. I will think about LIMBO for a long, long time, I suspect. I will probably buy it on video if it comes out on for sale video. I only do that with movies that mean a lot to me! I'm going to leave you all with a little light comment, but I absolutely HAVE to say it: David Strathairn = SUPER YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
