24 (2001)
innovation and suspenseful mastery
The creators of "24" have proven that television is still a viable and vastly innovative landscape. This is easily the best new show on TV. With its suspense, craftiness and excellent ensemble acting, "24" grips you every single minute of each hour. Every episode leaves you wanting more and hopelessly waiting for the next week to arrive. I can only imagine where this series will take us in the end. Bottomline, it's a brilliant show.
Trois (2000)
absolute garbage
This is absolutely the worst film I've ever seen. Not only does it
contain some of the worst acting, dialogue and directing ever
burned onto celluloid, it is nothing but pure trash. It amazes me that money was actually used to fund this project. I can't imagine how anybody thought this was something worth
making based on the horrendous script and premise. Soloman K. Smith delivers probably the worst performance in
history as does Gretchen Palmer. This is embarassing. NEVER EVER watch this movie.
American Pie 2 (2001)
absolutely hilarious
For the first time in a while, Hollywood delivers a better sequel. American Pie 2 is loaded with laughs, sight gags and an outstanding performance by Sean William Scott as "Stifler". He definitely steals the show. Adam Herz and David Steinberg have written a classic in the teen tradition and these two movies will be the standard in this genre from here on in.
Memento (2000)
You have NEVER seen a movie like this before!
This is by far the most original movie and engaging mystery since the Third Man. Christopher Nolan's storytelling brilliance will captivate audiences with his time twist and flipping of the story's narrative. The structure has been turned upside down and backwards giving us an incredible perspective. The film is one of a kind and it will leave people dumbfounded because of Nolan's craftiness and imagination. Absolutely the best film at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2000. Nolan, has thrusted himself into the category of vanguard filmmakers, along with David Fincher, PT Anderson, Guy Ritchie & Darren Aronofsky.
The Cell (2000)
incredible visual odyssey of disturbing proportions
It is almost inconceivable how someone could conjure up the images so gloriously painted and stroked in this provocative and imaginative film. Tarsem Singh captures an incredible disturbing world of the mind of a killer with such precision, one might question his deepest desires. An unbelievable achievement in filmmaking and horrifying performance by Vincent D'onfrio. His chameleon-like ability shown in the CELL, will undoubtedly leave a disturbing impression in the minds of millions.
Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000)
Eddie Murphy blazes the screen with comic genius
This is the sort of movie you can just sit back, sit forward and throw up all that popcorn, smarties and pepsi you've just inhaled. Without a doubt, Eddie Murphy's comic charisma and absolute genius ignite throughout the Nutty Professor 2. As a sequel, it tops many of the gags seen in the first installment including a bawdy moment with a hamster. The difference between this film and several other raunchy comedies we've seen in the past 2 years is it doesn't cross the line. It stays within its boundaries and is even more outrageous because of it. There's a reason why only Eddie Murphy can dawn 6 characters in a movie -- he's the only actor out there talented enough to do it.
Boiler Room (2000)
a caustic examination of the shrewd world known as capitalism.
Ben Younger has succeeded in giving us a microscopic look at the lifestyle & corruption of young Wall Street-type American men. With cutting dialogue and sharp characterizations, Boiler Room intensifies the personification of the American Dream, "Get rich and get rich quick". An excellent young cast devour the screen as hip hop sound beds have you nodding your head, as you play voyeur into these characters lives and dreams. The first great movie of the new millennium.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
A fantastic adaptation of Washington Irving's novel.
The entire production staff responsible for this incredible achievement should be rewarded with much praise.
Production Designer (Rick Heinrichs), Art Directors (team of Ken Court, John Dexter III & Leslie Tomkins), D.P. (Emmanuel Lubezki) and Tim Burton have succeeded greatly in capturing the dark, brooding essence that is The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow.
Amazing photography, brilliant set design and intense fight scenes are a few of the accolades this film deserves.
Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ichabod Crane was awesome. What a pleasure to watch.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
an intriguingly creepy film with great performances
What an incredible surprise. This film has been marketed in a way to get audiences thinking the film's gonna be some sort of high energy supernatural thriller, but it's a slow paced drama. Great performances from Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis, mainly because they were dramatic and unexpected, not cheesy.
