Young Americans (2000)
Trashy Summer Fun
So this is what happens when they make a show out the Abercrombie / American Eagle image. Not to complain- it works well as an excuse to get 20-something actors to frolic semi-nude. Too bad they forgot to add viable personalities to their characters. The dialog rolls off in ways that make Dawson's Creek look realistic.
Scream 2 (1997)
Lacking the edge of the original
On the bright side, Scream 2 only suffers from a few major flaws. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is: It's not scary. While the humor is up to par with the first Scream, this one lacks the tension to bridge the media-savvy jokes and one-liners. Some of the characters appear paper-thin- a pitfall Scream had successfully dodged. Lastly, the ending seemed to fall flat: cheesy, unrealistic, and thrill-less. But all that aside, this is still an entertaining film. It is well crafted, generally well acted, and witty. Furthermore, it adds something new to the trilogy, and really, that is all that is required of it.
Scream (1996)
A fresh spin on a dying genre
Here is a film that is so saturated in Kyro-syrup, so over the top with media-savvy jabs, and so cynical, that it almost topples from it's genre-bending tendencies. Yet on most accounts, it succeeds. There's no denying that it helps to be a fan of the genre. However, the clever craftsmanship of this film should provide an entertaining experience for anyone in the mood to be scarred. The film starts out on a high note, with an extremely effecting opening sequence. Unfortunately, Kevin Williamson's script looses its punch towards the ¾ mark, suffering from an overly long (and gory) finale.
Pledge Night (1988)
For the love of god, no!
I don't know which was more depressing, the fact that this was made or the fact that i rented it.... Acting was sub-awful Plot was lame, re-hashed, and putridly stupid The killer looked like a KISS star on crack. If you actually want to rent this, go ahead. The movie will serve as its own punishment.
