Cruel Intentions 2 (2000)
A movie that can't decide if it's a sequel, prequel or a TV series
I loved the original Cruel Intentions, but the follow up is pathetic. I just had to hire it out because the first one was brilliant.
My main problem is that the title "Cruel Intentions 2" implies that it is a sequel, but it's actually a prequel ...well sort of, that was originally meant to be a TV series based on the original movie.
Cruel Intentions 2 makes several errors in the timeline that do not coincide with the original, and a few memorable quotes have just been ripped straight from the original Cruel Intentions. The original movie was a very sexy movie, and it did it with taste, it didn't have anything that you could seriously consider to be nudity. The follow up wasn't as sexy, and it had to make up for it by inserting a few naked chicks in the movie in a way that didn't support the story.
I can't complain too much about the actors. They did the best that they could with the script. Ok, I have one complaint. Kathryn Merteuil was a bit over acted in some scenes.
Most fans of the original Cruel Intentions LOVED the ending of the first movie. Infact I've played back the ending a million times and cranked up the volume to The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony", however the sequel/prequel/failed TV show doesn't live up to expectations, it disappoints. It's as if they just ran out of film and decided "That's a wrap. Roll credits".
I was expecting this movie to be trashy, but seeing as I'm a big fan of the original, I had to see it. You should see the original before seeing this one though, otherwise it just wont make that much sense. If you are a fan of the original, see it for the same reason as I did. Just don't expect too much.

DeepStar Six (1989)
An underwater Sci-Fi that breaks the mould of space based science fiction
Deepstar Six is a unique sci-fi because it breaks the tradition of having sci-fi's set in space. Deepstar Six is about an underwater navy base that comes under attack from a sea monster that threatens the base and the lives of those in it. This movie has influenced the movie "Deep Blue Sea" (1999),with the theme of an underwater base and a creature that threatens them. Deepstar has submarines instead of the standard of spaceships in sci-fi's which is one of the reasons this movie is a refreshing change from other sci-fi's.
