X-Men (2000)
Where can I get my own Wolverine?
My God I loved this film! As a complete girly girl who has never read any comics ever this film was a breath of fresh air. The script was accessible to everyone and any 'in jokes' went completely over my head and were not a problem. The ensemble cast were superb, in particular Hugh Jackman with his enormous........acting talents and other obvious virtues.(Yes I am very shallow: if there's a cute guy in it, I'll see it!) On a more serious note though, I hope that the teams behind the new Batman and Superman movies will take a leaf out of Bryan Singer's new book, 'How to make a decent comic book movie instead of churning out yet another completely poo sequel.' In short, please see this movie!
Ed Wood (1994)
Truly amazing!
I am getting this movie for Christmas and I am so excited. This film is just gorgeous and you are either laughing or crying all the way through. In particular Ed's relationship with Bela is very touching. The first time I saw it was when my brother and some of our friends and I had a passion for making extraordinarily bad horror films using an extremely old camcorder and alot of ketchup and girls called Cassandra and guys called Bradley. This movie inspired us to make "House of the Damned" and after each scene was finished we would all utter the immortal phrase "Perfect, lets move on!"
Con Air (1997)
Hello Boys!
Well, you can't swing a dead cat in this film without walloping a cute guy looking a little sweaty: Cage, Rhames, Malkovich, Cusack, Treja and Chinlund. This is a proper action movie with no pretentions and my N0.1 man at his best as Cyrus the Virus. Rent it now and you won't regret it!
The Client (1994)
Great film, gorgeous men!
Call me shallow, but the thing that attracted me to this film when I first rented it were the names: Tommy Lee Jones and Brad Renfro. Tommy is one of the sexiest men alive today and Brad Renfro, although a couple of years too young, definitely gets marks for potential!! However, before you all club me under the label of whatever it is you think I am, I also really liked the film. It is exciting, tense, has some great lines (mostly from Tommy!) and has the ending that everyone wanted. OK, some might say it is a predictable Grisham drama but at least it is in the top of its field in its genre.
The Lady and the Highwayman (1988)
Can't believe I've found it!!
I saw this movie a year after it came out when I was ten and I haven't seen it since. I could only remember small details like Lysette having her dog killed by her new husband (I cried, but I was only ten!) and also the executioner remarking that it will only take one blow to lop Lysette's head off. It is one of the best adventure stories for young kids (and old ones), up there with Blackbeard's Ghost and the Goonies! If you can find it, watch it, and then watch it again!!
