Spider-Man 2 (2004)
My Favorite Comic Book Movie
Peter Parker contends with letting go of his ultimate dream (Mary Jane) while battling a heart broken scientist with robotic arms. A compelling story about love, loss, and identity that never forgets to thrill the audience with heart stopping action. Surpasses the original, as well as every other comic book movie in existence, by focusing on a hero whose conflicted feelings alter every aspect of his life. I honestly don't know a comic book character who's easier to relate to, for better and for worse.
The Sleeper (2012)
It's all about the dance scene.
"The Sleeper" is a faux lost '80s slasher that wants to have an old school vibe. Unfortunately, the gimmick doesn't work. If the filmmakers wanted this to look like a horror movie from 1981, why not shoot on stock available at the time? The digital aspect is too polished and, aside from the opening credits, only adds to the sad fact that nothing looks like it's from the 1980s.
However, this movie will always be remembered for one reason. There's a disco/rap line dance that's so excruciating you'll have to see it to believe it. This scene is worse than the party fiascos in "The Howling: New Moon Rising" and "Birdemic: Shock and Terror." In the end, this movie will stay in the public conscious, but for all the wrong reasons.
2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (2010)
Mercilessly terrible.
The previous 2001 Maniacs was pretty good. I was surprised that the parts between the murders were just as fun the deaths themselves (unlike HG Lewis's original). This sequel to the remake, however, is an absolute travesty where NOTHING works.
I'm all for a bad movie, but this one made me angry. The characters are the definition of cliché, the dialog is miserable, and the actors do nothing to even slightly improve upon the crap they're given to work with. Everyone puts on an accent or persona they simply can't pull off. Even Bill Moseley stinks. Every one of his lines comes off as something you'd find on the gag reel. He laughs through each line as though he no longer wants to laugh.
The worst part of this wreck is the merciless attempt at comedy. Trust me, there is nothing funny about this movie! When one joke fails, the viewer moves on. When every joke fails, the viewer gets enraged, especially when each stone aged joke relies too heavily upon multicultural racism and flamboyant homosexuality.
This movie is worse than bad. This movie is, by and large, a sheer waste of time and energy.
The Wrong Door (1990)
Overlooked for a reason
I watch a ton of obscure movies, but few are as forgotten as this one. There aren't even five votes yet? Not surprising.
For anyone concerned, this movie focuses on a college assignment regarding sound that leads a jester-dressed student on a violent evening that involves a marital affair. Believe me, the "plot" is as disjointed as it sounds.
Strangely enough, for a movie initially concerned with sound, this film is virtually silent. Too many scenes go without music or dialog, which ultimately leads to sheer boredom. There's also no structure, no defined characters, and absolutely no point. This is one of the more sour movies I've ever seen, but on a good note, it's short.
Killer Pad (2008)
PADded with terrible comedy.
I'll still go with Return of the Boogeyman as the worst movie of all time, but this dud's in my bottom twenty. That's quite an accomplishment. I give very few movies a "1," but this sucker deserves less.
Here's the deal. Three teens rent a near-mansion (that they consider a "pad") above the portal to hell. The best parts of this movie (plot, sense, meaning) are awful. What lowers this beneath most other train wrecks is the strive for comedy in every single word uttered by the ugly, flamboyant, s*** eating leads. Honestly, I'd rather have spent 84 minutes in a highway rest stop on National Chili Day.
This is the kind of steaming pile that nobody involved with will ever want anything to do with. The actors will blame the director for their bad performances, the director will blame producers about creative control, and producers will blame everyone but themselves.
