Iron Jawed Angels (2004)
A story that needed to be told
Excellent movie with a few flaws ( music from a different time period, romance that wasn't necessary to the plot). It shows how the fight for the right for women to vote in the USA was a very tough one. People like to talk about "God given rights" but often rights have to won in a "war" by people that are willing to put everything on the line. These brave souls make life better for everybody. It seems obvious that women should have the same right to vote as men, but in the times represented by this film it was only obvious to a few. Hillary Swank and the others in the cast showed the gritty determination that it took to fight for voting rights. Rights aren't given to us. Let's not forget that!
Thomasine & Bushrod (1974)
Good for a laugh
This movie is very dated. It is so corny that we found ourselves laughing at the attempts to be "cool". The worst scene was when the couple played in a muddy river I expected to see them running through a grassy field in slow motion next. There isn't any resemblance to Bonny and Clyde except for the fact Thomasine is a female and Bushrod is a male. You might enjoy watching it as an example of the use of stereotypes in a movie or as a lesson in cinematic history. The photography was better than the rest of the movie.
The Music Man (2003)
A refreshing change
A very refreshing change from the crime dramas and reality shows on TV. As far as I am concerned the Music Man ranks with many of the old musicals from the fifties like Oklahoma and Carousel.. Every scene was a delight to watch and to hear. Congratulations to the fine cast. The costuming ,set designing, direction, singing, and dancing were all top notch. My only complaint is that it wasn't broadcast in high definition here.
The Lineup (1958)
Worth watching
Good crime drama with interesting settings and some good action scenes. The movie really showcases San Francisco. Sutro Baths ( now sadly lost in a fire) is the setting for a some excellent scenes. You will also see the Opera House, the Ferry Building, some freeways being built, and other interesting sights. If you want to see how San Francisco looked in 1958 and see some pretty good action and some pretty mean bad guys you will enjoy this one.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
One of the worst movies ever made
I hated this movie. I was not offended by the language or the sexuality, but I was offended by how stupid this waste of time packaged as a movie was. I can't believe that so many people liked this movie. It is boring and ranks with "Hudson Hawk" as the one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Some movies are so bad that their fun to watch. This one isn't.
Save the Last Dance (2001)
A moving movie
This movie moved me. I loved it because it was about how people relate to each other and attempt to rise above a world (external and within themselves) that seems to be holding them back. The small intimate conversations in this movie are a refreshing from movies that depend too much on special effects of many of the popular movies.I liked how the movie avoiding labeling people as bad or good. One message seems to be it is the decisions you make that determine your destiny. The acting and excellent photography made it all seem real.
Federal Protection (2002)
Great movie with original action
This is a very entertaining movie with some great action. It has some good surprises in it and a bit of dark humor. Stay with it. It gets gets more and more interesting as it goes on. It is very violent. The acting is very good. This is not a B movie.Excellent photography, sound track and use of locations.
