The Package (1989)
The film that inspired Oliver Stone to do JFK?
7 June 2001
Oliver Stone must surely be a fan of this movie. Interesting to compare how the planned murder of the Russian premier is set up with how the Kennedy asassination in JFK (1991) was presented. Watch both and decide for yourself. In any case this is a film well worth seeing.

Double play at the court
3 July 2000
Recommended fun. This was (and in some quarters still is) accused of being a scene by scene carbon copy of the 1937 version. Having recently seen both versions almost back to back on TV, I can tell you that it isn't. True, the music score is the same and the set ups are the same, but a carbon copy it isn't - just an ordinary remake. For instance the sword play and the action scenes are far more elaborate and exciting in this version compared to the old version.

How the German V1 & 2 rockets where dealt with.
7 June 2000
Excellent suspense movie. This one probably "disappeared among the "Guns of Navarone" imitators during the 60's. A pity, since it is worth having a look at. Some points in its favour: "Unpredictable" - characters who usually don't die in movies like this dies unexpectedly and in unexpected order (it doesn't follow the clichés). The spies sent on undercover missions into Germany are actually forced to speak German, and various ruses to cover up the accents have to be made. One negative aside though. At times it seems that two movies are being shown at the same time, a docu-drama about the actual bombings of England and a totally fictitious (albeit exciting) spy drama.

The US Marines at Guadalcanal with endless flashbacks.

Zzzzzzleap inducing. War is confusion, but did the film have to be just that. This is for those who like their films to be Art and would never admit to liking Steven Spielberg (the film came out around the same time as Saving Private Ryan, and both was Oscar Nominated). Saving Private Ryan it isn't to be sure and neither is it any good. Watch some nice paint dry instead!

Crazy Horse (1996 TV Movie)
Not really worth your time...
4 May 2000
This is history? It's one of those revisionist epics where the indians are depicted as goodie-goodies on a weekend scouting trip, have a beauty parlor and a gym in the camp somewhere, don't commit anything that could be viewed as offensive to modern viewers, all whites are evil brutes to a man and Custer is made personally responsible to all things bad that ever happened to the poor indians.

Furthermore it's doubtful that any indian tribe ever discussed matters military in terms of front lines and troops or whatever.

It's not even good as a old fashioned shoot-'em up adventure movie - it's too dull for that. If you want to see anything serious on the subject, watch "Dances With Wolves" or "Son of the Morning Star" instead.
