Someone Like You... (2001)
Charming Romantic Comedy
A romantic comedy in the spirit of Roman Holiday. You could tell from the beginning who was going to end up with whom, but the twists and turns of the relationship(s) was wonderful. Naomi Judd is very talented in this film. Greg Kinear once again did a wonderful job of playing that charming, but flawed male. Hugh Jackman's character was genuine all American male! Hugh is going places. It was wonderful to see Marissa once again--and playing a role that was made for her! Go see this movie, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel you got your moneys worth!
You Can Count on Me (2000)
Families!
It was great to see a film about a family that didn't get overly stereotyped. The brother/sister relationship is rarely seen (if ever) as the key storyline. Mark Ruffalo is an actor to watch, he will grow to become an American Icon. Laura Linney is deserving of the Best Actress Oscar nomination, although, her competition may be more worthy of the win. What a fabulously subtle performance by Rory Caulkin! The honesty of the movie is what really hooks you in!
Wonderland (1999)
Dysfunctional, selfish family members try to survive.
I have never been so depressed in my life. The movie tells the story of a family--a very dysfunctional family. The type of family that you actually pray for a happy ending to the movie. At the end of the movie, things seem to look up as they move on with their lives, but I just have a feeling that Jack will become a juvenile delinquent, Alice's parents will be so self-absorbed her future will be dismal. The only ones with a possibility of a future without a lifetime of pain is Franklin & Nardia. I can see how some people will appreciate the pain of everyday life...but this was just too much to bear!
