American Violet (2008)
Worth watching to see the other truth...
After seeing this movie at an Atlanta, Georgia screening, it was like being sucker punched and having all the wind knocked out. And this is a docu-drama based on a real like event. I've seen all that mess and more, have a better understanding of how and why 92 year old Katheryn Johnston was murdered. Why I see the police all the time except when I call them for help (that's not why they are in my neighborhood). The truly false perception of how well the DA's, Judges and police are doing their jobs but what they do is no more than busy work, never accomplishing a thing. And jails are the only industry in America that is growing. When was the last time you went to the store to buy a prison? Stopped in a showroom to look at the latest model prison? I don't recall asking for new prisons or more prisons; they was the ideas of politicians and investors (so you know there's money involved somewhere). And the 2 Federal Judges that were convicted for taking bribed (paid $2.5 million) to lengthen sentence in juvenile cases. We need to talk about this or we'll all end up behind bars. And this is all allowed, by law, because of the wording in the 13th Amendment giving slavery and involuntary servitude a legal place in America.
A Sound of Thunder (2005)
I found this movie to be very interesting Sci Fi story
For me to watch this movie, as entertainment, was a satisfying experience. The glitches of time lines and names on helmets were not what the story was about. When you look to be entertained, it just might happen. The time ripples that brought about changes when they occurred added an element of urgency to find what had caused the change and then effect a correction, but at least one member of this rapidly shrinking party had to survive and had to get back to the past mishap and undo the damage. Even the bio filter being left off to increase the profit margin was so modern corporate greedy an idea (i.e. NASA, ENRON and Haliburton) even with government oversight and regulations. I like this movie and have recommended it to F. Paul Wilson for his personal review.
Funny Valentines (1999)
Fantastic Movie!!!
When I first read this short story by J. California Cooper I was blown away. When I heard about the movie I got excited and viewed it whenever possible on BET. It should be joined by other stories that Ms. Cooper has penned since her writing career got started by Alice Walker. Maybe one of her novels can be adapted to the screen or produced as a movie for TV. This is a story that needed to be told and shown in schools, churchs, reunions and public gatherings. Now I want to know when will it be availible to purchase? It has been 5 years and there still is no outlet for distribution. As a member of a book discussion group for 8 years, people ask me when will this movie be released? I have no answer and am not in a position to effect the release of this movie. Who can and will? Please hurry...
